The wire only utilizes 3v, it gets connected to an inverter that can be connected to 12v. I'll be fuse tapping #44 under the hood fuse box for the trailer camera. It will be powered on only when the truck is on which is fine I suppose. The light is not noticeable during the day anyways. The other option was the trailer lights, but that fuse is a cartridge fuse which I can't do a nice tap into. I'd have to do some okie doke shove the hot wire in there with. The only positive with going that way is that it would get powered on when the headlights come on. I dont know if being on all the time with the truck on will prematurely burn the light out or not. Ill go with wiring it into the trailer camera for now and test it the other way if I choose to do so. Tomorrow or after the holiday it should be all hooked up. Fishing the wire towards the fuse box should be a hoot!

Okay so I have an idea on how to get this to work, but it may involve drilling a 3/32 hole in the emblem backings to fish the wire through due to me not wanting to take the whole damn grille off.

Just an FYI, removing the grill is very easy but repeated R&Rs will likely break a clip or two.
Ask me how I know.

There are about 6 fasteners and 4 or 6 pos plastic clips, IIRC and, mine hasn't fallen off yet.

Check YouTube for grill removal tutorials.

Do you have any idea of the required current draw?

Be careful using red: AL Title 32: "(2) No person shall drive or move any vehicle or equipment upon any highway with any lamp or device thereon displaying a red light visible from directly in front of the center thereof. This section shall not apply to authorized emergency vehicles."

Yup, dang pesky Code of Alabama! You can tell I’ve been retired too long.

The Province of Ontario also has a beef with a red light in front of anything but an officially authorized or emergency vehicle.

Like most of the Ontario Highway Traffic Act (OHTA), everything is ambiguous but written so that any officer could use it at his/her discretion.

Red light in front
62 (15) In addition to the lighting requirements in this Part, a vehicle described in subsection (15.1) may carry lamps that cast a red light only or such other colour of light that may, with the approval of the ministry, be designated by a by-law of the municipality in which the vehicle is operated, but no other motor vehicle shall carry any lamp that casts a red light to the front. 1998, c. 35, s. 103.

EL wire typically draws a very low current, usually around 10-15 milliamps (mA) per meter, depending on the brightness and length of the wire, when powered by a high voltage AC inverter; this translates to about 1.5 watts per meter of wire.
