I'm usually good at math.

Having a '17 Laramie 4x4 CC with 3.6 and an enclosed cargo trailer, I have some confusion about weights. Hopefully, one of you can help me understand.

My GCWR is 12,900 lbs. My truck weighs 5171 and I estimate my topper weighs in at about 200 lbs. Add in 225 for me and another 100 lbs for misc, I come up with approx. 5700 lbs. This is well below my GVWR of 6800 lbs. My cargo trailer weighs 2250 with spare tire and rim and misc. gear. The trailer is licensed at 6000 lbs. I know I should put 10% (600 lbs.) on the tongue. This puts the truck at 6300 lbs. My question is the following. Since 600 lbs. of the 6000 from the trailer goes to the truck, if I weigh just my trailer while it is attached to the truck and it weighs 6000 lbs., is my trailer legal? If the trailer is unhitched from the truck and the wheels and the jack are on the scare, it would register 6600 lbs. However, if it is attached to the truck and only the trailer wheels are on the scale, it would only weigh 6000 lbs. Not that I would ever want to pull that much weight, I am intrigued by the question.

So, my final question is can I put 3750 in my trailer or can I put 4350 in it and be legal with my 6000 lb. plate? :roflsquared:

Fairly certain the 6000 lbs is the gross weight of the trailer regardless of how much is on the axles and how much on the tongue. Now if the trooper is going to make you unhook your trailer on the scales is something I don't know.

I'm actually more intrigued that your CC Laramie is only 120 lbs heavier than my QC Tradesman ...

If you put 600 pounds of tongue weight on your truck then the gvw trailer should weigh 5400 pounds loaded that depends if the GVW of the trailer is 6000lbs.

According to Ram's Body Builder Guide for 2017, all three (axle ratio) versions of the the Ram 1500 CC with the V6 and the 5'7" bed weigh 5170.5 lbs. Do you have a Hemi? The Hemi adds 200+ lbs and that may make up some of the difference.
