2014 Ram with the 8.4 nav radio. Accuracy is garbage with the GPS on the radio (just used it for the first time today). Seems like it is not picking up satellites and when it does, I am like miles off on the display from the track I should be on. Any suggestions on what to do/try? All other functions seem to be working normally (I do not have any of the U-Connect services of SXM turned on at this point). Thanks in advance

Check the revision level of the radio firmware. If it is not 18.43.01 then it needs to be updated. Anything 17.x.x and below needs update.

Just to expand on what clifford15 said: The reason it needs to be updated is that last November a counter variable in the GPS Satellite data stream rolled over back to 0 and pretty much every GPS receiver in the world needed an update to accommodate it. Mine showed me in the next state before I updated it.

Just a quick update for everyone. I went to do the update yesterday and found I have to take it back to the dealer. I have version 15.26 something and that is one of the versions that is stated to have the dealer perform the update. So hopefully I can get it into the dealer this week to have it done. Delays :(

I upgraded to an ra4 nav radio 3 years ago. When my gps would intermittently show I was miles away from where I actually was earlier this year. I started googling and researching this issue. I read that the radio would have to receive an update. This update under normal circumstances would be sent out over the air automatically but because I had updated my tradesman that didn’t come with Uconnect I would have to look up my radios update via Uconnect web site using the vin of the vehicle that this radio came in. I saw that the software version in my radio required me to carry it to the dealership for the update at no charge. I go to the stealership who didn’t have a clue, especially about the no charge part, explain everything to them and call Uconnect. I asked the customer service person at uconnect to talk with the service manager and mechanic to help explain what they need to update as I was not getting through to them. After she spoke to them the service technician pulled the history of updates For my radio then installed them in the order they were released. There were four updates that had to be installed to get my radio working as it should. Going forward I’ll check and keep it up to date. The Radio GPS now works perfectly as it should

Ray, as my truck came with this radio I hope my dealer service folks won't need me to call uconnect, but I will have that number in in phone just in case. Thank you so very much!

So the dealer has had the truck since Tuesday and well the update attempts have failed turning the radio into a brick. These radios refurbished through the dealer are not cheap :puke: and a two to three day wait from one location otherwise a two to three week wait. Nothing like loosing you truck for a period of time after only one week of having owning it :banghead:. I will have them put a refurbished one in it for now as it comes with a two year warranty. Any good suggestions for the next time is happens (hopefully no next time but I am going to have this truck for at least 10 years before getting another one so you never know)?

My navigation was inaccurate and it was the antenna.

My navigation has never worked correctly. I hate it. It sucks having to use my Garmin or cell phone to navigate.

While we're complaining about the navigation....Mine works fine but every time I use it the volume starts out so loud even though my default setting says "1". To fix it, I go to navigation settings, change it to 2 then back to 1 and it's fine. But it goes back to super loud whenever I turn it off then back on (even though setting still says 1). I don't use it that often but it's just an annoying glitch.

So I wish I had read another thread before taking my truck to the dealer, however I was also getting errors with the 911 phone and the radio telling me to take it in to have it fixed. So maybe the modem in the radio has failed causing all the problems. Just don't know, and still the dealer waits for word on when the new radio will arrive.

And to dhay13, that boat GPS of yours is working wonderfully :laughing1:

Yep. Mine about blows my ears out when it starts talking. I have to drop it to 2 every time I use it

Update for everyone, got the truck back from the dealer yesterday. Radio replaced by FCA at their expense. There was a service bulletin (expediated bulletin if I am remembering correctly) that addressed this problem with updating the radio. Any radio/s that failed at the dealer for the update FCA was covering the replacement to include labor charges. It sucked losing my truck for a week but I am totally happy. The radio works properly now for all features and will suit me just fine for hopefully as long as I own the truck.

Extremely happy with my dealer and their service department!

And just think! All the airports and airliners are switching from ILS to GPS landing systems!
