Sitting here looking at Magnaflow mufflers, and I have no idea what sizes the OEM pipes are? I have no intention on going cat-back for a while and I've read enough bad about Mufflex to avoid them. I plan to order a Magnaflow and allow a local shop to put them on. Anyone got these specs? or a part number would suffice lol

what bad have you heard about mufflex?
I'm relatively new here but havent heard a single bad thing.

I just put one on mine and am very happy with it
install was cake, took me about 45 min including stopping to take pics and put my tools away.

stock muffler is 3" in and dual 2.5" out

I have the mufflex also and love it but I think that what he talking about is some people was having trouble with the clamp not getting them tighten enough so they leak. That why you have to get them tighten enough so this want happen and you want have the problem.

I had that stock Y-pipe cut off and install the magnaflow Y-pipe install and it's working great. So if he want to have a shop weld it on that's no problem but like what was said from the cat is 2.5" and out is 3" out. I know that I said this backward from what was said but it's the same.

There's more than a handfull of replies on the web about Mufflex's mufflers either "leaking" or "falling off."

He may be refering to that..... or the clamps snapping due to overtightening..... ?

they are leaking or coming off because people only clamp them. It doesn't matter who's clamps, pipes or mufflers you use, if you only clamp an exhaust system it will leak.

It's not a defect. The metal expands as it warms up and contracts as it cools off. Eventually those clamps get stretched by the process and, voila, a leak.

I have to disagree here.

I had a bolt-on Corsa [Part Number 14189] catback on my 2006 GTO that I and a buddy installed in my driveway over a weekend.

Checked it regularly - 'cause I was paranoid about leaks, clamp breaks and whatnot] over almost three years [when I sold it] and never had single issue.

Its the leak, among other things. I don't have the tools to do anything besides a clamp, and while a clamp may suffice I don't want to risk it. So I will just go with a Magnaflow muffler and have it put on

so 2.5" and 3.0" out? Its killing me I need it on lol

its not because people clamping them its just the crappy clamps they give with the kit. I changed mine to a different one and there hasn't been a single issue. Mufflex is an awesome kit well worth the money. just the clamps suck. I bet noone has complained to Mufflex about it. I didn't but I fixed it myself.

I would recommend it to anyone.

besides the ease of installation whats the advantage of the mufflex over a standard 14" magnaflow

it already comes with the hangers needed and extensions to match up with the OEM pipes. All welded and all stainless. Its just unbolt the OEM and throw this in place.

Heres a few pics of mine.

this.
You can't swap out the rear clamps(well easily that is), but besides leaking they get tight enough that they won't come off. The front clamp that comes with the kit is useless....no matter how tight you make the bolt it just doesn't clamp down on the stock pipe. From Matt's recommendation I got a formed 3" clamp and there is no way the muffler is falling off now.

I liked the idea of the mufflex kit because it was a direct bolt on. Meaning i didn't need to go somewhere and pay to have a muffler welded in. Now when its time to part with the truck i can put the still barely used stock muffler back on.

I did have a bit of a problem with the front clamp.
I just hit it hard with a 1/2" breaker bar and tightened the hell out of it.
Figured if I break the bolt then I'd have to replace the clamp anyway.
Surprisingly it held up to some serious torque and no leaks.

Resurrecting an old one here.
My mufflex kit did end up coming completely loose at the inlet.
Didn't fall off but surely could have.

Loosened the clamp, pushed it back on, tightened the hell out of it with a breaker bar again and a few months later, it's slipped again.

Time to put it on again and weld it this time.

I think dodge must be using metric exhaust piping and 3" is just a couple mm too big.

I have a single in/out OEM muffler and its 3". I just ordered a MAGNAFLOW 18" XL. part#13269 both sides offset. I also ordered a Y 2.5" inlets and 3" out. I did a lot of reading for my setup this seems to be the way to go. I will have a local guy weld the Y in place of the restrictive crap thats on there now and keep everything else clamp on so I can plug and play as desired.

Mufflex is nice because it's bolt on, but I always prefer welded exhaust. It prevents having to use Permatex to seal it up. I went through the whole bolt on cat back exhaust with my Camaro and I was always chasing exhaust leaks.

Is there any real issue with a little exhaust leak? I just put on a Mufflex dod14m and noticed a little leaking and I even tightening them as much as possible with an air ratchet.

They usually don't get better. The sealant goes where the pipes slide together. Usually if done correctly, they don't leak.

My Magnaflow catback on my G8 hasn't been touched other than polishing it, since the day it was installed. No leaks and nearly 48,000 miles!

I have read about 100 threads on exhaust not even kidding. I keep coming back to the fact there is not really any performance gain and when I am towing it is really annoying (I think.) So would someone who goes with the 24" Maggy please make a sound clip of TOWING. I know they sound good empty but what about with a nice 5000+ load and tow/haul on? I want to hear this. Chewy it is on you or someone else with 24" muffler.

Those Corsa clamps (I have one on my SRT) are a totally different animal. You won't find them lingering around on the exhaust shop's shelves. You can get that style but no one seems to remember to do so.

So I'll retract my statement a bit by saying a welded system is always better than a clamped system unless you use a much better clamp than the standard barrel clamp.
