Those Focal Flax are realllly nice. See if he will discount the installation and just have the shop deal with those headaches for you?

That it a thought , Have to stop by and get some 4 gauge shrink tube since I forgot to ask for some

May pull the triiger

Would there be a problem not running the mid bass driver off the supplied crossovers ?

just want to pout the tweeters and small mid range drivers on the cross over ?

Those Focal passive crossovers should allow you to do that. Then you could run semi-active and feed the midbasses more power than the rest. Check to see if the passives have a -5db setting for the tweeters. You may want to back them down a touch compared to the midranges.

I grabbed the Focals, Saved almost $ 200.00 bucks that does not hurt since I am insanely over budget already ........ lol

Also the mid ranges are super easy to install, Round piece of ABS a little bigger than the speaker, screw the speaker into that and screw the ABS to the factory holes

Thinking the tweeters in the A pillars again for ease of installation and that backs them off a little as listening to the same tweeter in the store is is super sharp as it is aluminum/something inverted instead of a silk dome ?

What ever that means, get the different material but not sure if there is a benefit or negative impact from inverting it ? Hoping for the best as I was able to listen to the woofer and tweeter, but no the mid range ?

they only had a two way set on display

The crossovers have three settings on them 0 db, -1.5 db & -3 db

Have to say the cast aluminum baskets are super strong looking

So looks like I am all in now ............. lol

The tweeters in the A Pillar will be nice. I’d recommend using double sided tape to try a few different options on how to point them before actually installing them.

My guess is that the -3db setting will be your favorite.

You will enjoy them a lot!

I have a similar focal set. I ended up flush mounting the tweeters in the sail panel on the doors. I made an adapter to go from 6x9 to 6.5 to mount the speakers in the doors. Mids are a work in progress. I made a new plate from the speaker grill for the speakers in the dash. Right now they are mounted and sitting on top of the plate. Love the setup and sound.

Yea I am opting for the A pillars to save having to **** around getting another wire into the door.

For mids think just 4 1/8" disc with the middle cut out to mount the mid to then drill out the two factory fastener locations and done

The grill should work nicely as these are a 1/2" smaller than the factory drivers, Maybe take a piece of 3" pipe insulation between the speaker and grill to avoid any loss in the dash.

Thanks Tom, great idea, I will give that a go to find the best location for them

The DSR1 has time alignment so may be able to tweek that to help if needed :waytogo:

While you’re testing tweeter locations (before running wires) give them a try on the sails as well. Might as well hear all options and then decide. Just drape the speaker wire through the cab for testing.

You need a 6x9 to 6.5 adaptor. My rockford T2 6.5” components came with the adaptor which was nice.

I also have the t2s what do you have your x over setting on mines on 0 but the is +2 0 and -2 .or are you ruining yours active ?

No doubt , they even have pods I could mount on the pillars or dash to fire them straight out, but they look kind of wonky ???

Those pods seem to be popular with some competitors in Europe. Personally I think they look dorky unless it’s a specially built show car.

I think you’ll find the tweeters installed pretty much flat on the sails (aimed at the opposite passenger’s head) will give you a really wide stage and the off axis response may help alleviate some of the characteristic Focal brightness.

I agree, I don't think they look that good, they would have to make night and day difference for me to go in that direction

Hoping to find a place in the Pillar to avoid having to deal with the doors

If they end up being to bright hopefully I can adjust on the DSP. If not can always replace with AF Silk dome tweeters

Just ordered the Scoche 6x9 x 6.5" speaker adapters for the doors , 9 bucks on Amazon

If it would ever stop raining I could make some progress

Monday I had to mow and now three days in a row it has rained

Just some install pics of a Scan 10f 4” I installed a while back. Minor trimming but retained factory mounting holes. Oddly enough, driver’s side needed a bit more trimming to sit flush.

I have them mounted flush in sail panels .what should my axis setting be on or off?I'm New to this stuff

It’s not an axis setting, on-axis means pointing directly at your head. Off-axis means pointing to another spot.

The setting (+2, 0, -2) are raising and lowering the tweeter’s loudness.

To expand on this, I never use + on a tweeter crossover. While a smart consumer could keep it tame most people are more prone to blowing speakers, so negative usually is the best way to go, and then you can cut your mids if you need to. Always cut, never boost.

Or go fully active and you can blow them all by accident. :head3:
