I just bought an 09 ram, it has an aftermarket(cheapo) head unit and I’m going to add a back up camera to the license plate. Which wires from trailer should I hook into for hot and ground? Also, how do get the rca wire behind the dash, where do you bring the wire inside the cab? The head unit already switches to backup camera when I put it in reverse so I assume I won’t have to mess with that part.

I’m new to all this, thank you I’m advance for the help.

Your trailer harness plug should have a diagram imprinted on the plastic that tells you what each wire goes to. I ran my rca cable to under the rear seat. There was a round plastic plug. Drilled a hole and put a rubber grommet in it. This was on a 16 Ram quad cab. Im not 100% sure everything will be the same for your 09.

on mine (2004), I tapped into the rear view mirror. it has 3 wires and one is for a dimmer that is triggered when you put it in reverse. easy to tap then run across the headliner (at windshield), under drivers side, then up into the back of the radio.

First make sure your loom the wire... then run it along and ziptie to parking brake wire. There should be a grommet under driver floor you can use to enter the cab. Then route the up through the kick, under the dash, and to the radio.

your 7pin trailer harness has a reverse light wire and ground. use those as the power and ground for the camera. that way the cam is only on when in reverse.

Search around on here the colors have been posted many times for those wires.
