i pay 220/mo for a '12 vw passat, '13 ram, and '13 camaro. plus i have a $1million umbrella to cover me in the event of something large happens. also included in this price is a $18k for my wifes wedding ring.

i remember the days of being 21 and having a new car/truck. to me seeing 160/mo at 21 isnt bad

I would highly suggest using $10,000 for mods on the truck (supercharger, headers, wheels/tires).

If a woman needs an $18,000 ring, there is something wrong.

She may just want a $18,000 ring as bad as you want $18,000 in mods.

The important part is making sure you have the proper insurance coverage that is right for you OP.

I have American Family who I have had since 16 and they have been good for me. Right now I pay $177 with full glass and renters plus boat and the wife's '14 T&C and my '09 Ram. Her ring is in there too. I have shopped once just to see and it was not worth it to me. My wife and I have clean records and are 28. I don't see it going down any further but is okay price and I feel I am well covered with people who I trust to take care of me in the event I need them. I have not felt insurance is a place I want to cut.

You're an expert on this matter, how?

Prove it. Prove with facts why you think some here are getting screwed.

Not an expert. I have two cars, 2010 Ram CTD and a 2013 Volvo, botjh have a note; 600$ a year, full coverage through Farmers.

There is so much variance state to state you can't say people are getting screwed unless they are from your state.
I pay $170 per month for my 2014 2500 and my wife's 2014 grand cherokee. The same coverage with her jeep and my 13 1500 was $150 per month. If you take my exact vehicles and live 200 miles south of me in Ohio the rates get pretty much cut in half. Michigan is a no fault state so we get screwed.

There are so many variables included in insurance rates that it is impossible to compare one persons rates to another. They look at driving record, age, marriage status, credit rating (FICA Score), location, vehicle usage, distance commuting to work, age of kids if any on policy, and so on. The best you can do is to get quotes for a few companies, with the same level of coverage, and decide what is best for your situation.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I need to give Geico a call and see what the deal is. I should mention, the $165 I pay now is for full coverage with the max coverages, so I don't think I'm getting hosed. Compared to other quotes I've gotten, my current rate is generally about $20 lower per month. That Geico quote was just such a drastic difference that I had to ask.

This is 100% true. I've had insurance in three different states (Michigan, South Carolina and Texas), and Texas has been the most expensive. My insurance when I lived in Houston was bad , Lubbock was pretty inexpensive, and now Fort Worth is somewhere in between.

That doesn't mean anything...there is a lot more that goes into what you pay than you think. For instance, I pay $2800 a year for my 13 Ram and wifes 14 Cadillac. But, we have EXCELLENT coverage, not just state minimum with the cheapest company we could find. I could go elsewhere and pay less. I could pay less within the same company. But I want to know that if something happens, my family is protected and I have a company who has my back.

Everyone brags about having the cheapest price until it comes time for them to use their insurance, then they all yell about hating their insurance company...you get what you pay for.

FYI, I work in the insurance industry, so I do have a little experience in the business.

I think the saying that would go well here would be sometimes when you lose you actually win and sometimes when you win you actually lose. Problem is it is hard to know exactly which side you are on until the instance already took place and changes can't be made.

Add that to $5+/gal and it makes me wanna move to the states

yep insurance companies like to really bend us over here. currently 3 vehicles in the family, a 2006 HRR with just liability is $800 per year, 2011 Silverado with full coverage is $1100 and the 2014 Ram again with full coverage is $1500 so $3400 a year for all 3 and that's just insurance, start adding all the government crap like yearly plate stickers and emission test every 2 years and it starts getting pretty expensive to drive

I live in Ontario, I'm $300 a month for my 2010 ram... Most places quoted me over $400 a month. I have a clean record, no tickets, warnings, accidents, anything and its still that high.

Canada seems to pay more for everything. Cell phone service costs amaze me up there. We have it easy down here no one should be complaining in comparison.

I Know this is not the place for this discussion, but I'll briefly state (and no offense to my Canadian friends), but this is the problem with socialism. People think they have "free" medicine in Canada, but nothing is free. It comes at the cost of higher taxes, fees, etc.. I'd rather be taxed less, and receive less from the government, but I guess that's just the libertarian streak in me. I digress....:buffer:

I'll take my 'free' health care for a little more tax any day... I'd rather have a little more off every pay cheque then wonder where I'm going to come up with a fortune for hospital bills when I'm really sick. And besides health care, were no more socialized than south of the border... Its not like the US doesn't have social insurance , disability benefits, old age pensions and all those other social services.

And people with no or minimal auto insurance make it more expensive for everybody else because they have to pay for somebody else's accident.

Wow, touchy much? You do realize u guys pay Almost Half your Salary for Income Tax. We dont pay nearly That. I'd rather purchase my own private insurance, or work for a company that provides it, than have the nanny-state government buy it for me, then have to wait in long lines when u have to actually use it. That's why many Canadians who live near the border actually come HERE for medical needs. OH NO!:naughty:
