So, the time has come for me to have another crack at a CAI on my 06 5.7, I am torn between 3, and, any info on them would be groovy, I am not expecting manufacturers hp claims, I am more interested in looks and sound:

1) Vararam, I have no intention of wading through 3 feet of water, and, I have heard many good things about the overall performance of it, but, no mention of a difference to the engine sound, is there any noticeable engine note change.

2) Volant, looks good, and, by all accounts sounds good too, however, it does not look as though this intake connects directly to the throttle body, rather it just replaces the stock airbox and connects to the "hemi hat". I was under the impression that the hemi hat was a poor design and installing a CAI, was, in part a means to replace it for a more smooth flowing system.

3) S&B, looks great, I love the clear airbox window, however, info on this system is scarce, how does it sound?

this is will be the first of the basic bolt ons that I will be adding, SC 3865 will be ordered next week, I saw a company called Hearthrob make a dual catback for the 06 Ram, which, looks pretty good, so that will also be ordered with the twin glasspacks. After that I may well go for the larger TB, which, is where I plan on stopping :).

Regards,

Jake

Im no pro. But I just love the S&B. I wish it would fit on my 4.7L.
Badass look, covers the excessive sound, and apparently it runs great.
Im just not a big fan of the Vararam look, but it would be the only one I guess that overcomes S&B performance wise.
Good Luck, hope that helps

I have a cummins so it aint the same. But I can say and Matt can back me up that my turbo sounds MUCH better with the S&B over the stock intake. Sounds awesome. Dont know if its comparable to the increase in sound with your gas truck. One thing I really liked about the S&B is that its enclosed. One your filter will be cleaner and two it will keep more heat out. Also if your looking for a little bit of flash that plexi sheild with the S&B engraved in it would look killer lighted up with LEDs. Ive been planing to do this myself but have yet to get it done. I run a vararam and like it a lot, slight mod if you have a body lift, and it looks great. The exaust sounds louder and you can hear intake air at the front bumper. Hope this helps.

Of the 3 mentioned, you are going to see the best gains from the Vararam as it is the only true ram air intake available for the hemi trucks. You will hear a difference with this intake, but it is not as loud as the open element kits.

Next up would be the S&B. I am running an S&B myself on my Cummins, and it is a very well built kit. Fitment is perfect, the box and intake tube are very stout, and the quality of the kit is so nice that it almost looks like it came that way from the factory. It wont perform as well as the Vararam, but it is a very close 2nd.

Volant is nice as well, but the S&B is a similar design and is a better built kit, so I would stick to Vararam or S&B.
