Interesting statement on 5W-30 oil being used in the 6.4 instead of 0W-40

I’ve thought about the rotella gas truck 5w30, but not for my ram 6.4, I might dump it into my wife Pacifica pentastar 3.6, which specs 0w20. In the USA they always go with the thinnest oil for fuel economy, but most of these engines see much thicker oil in foreign countries.

This truck already gets poor fuel economy, why go thinner when you can get a thicker 40 weight oil that will protect better? My work truck 2016 Chevy 2500 6.0 gets nothing but 15w40 Dino and those trucks run flawless for 150k before they are sold.

My truck has been on a steady diet of PUP 0w40 winter, Mobil delvac 5w40 in summer. It runs quieter with the delvac.

I'm using Quaker State 10w40 High Mileage syn blend, no issues. Used 5w40 and 10w40 RedLine with no issues as well.

I mix PUP 0-40 and PUP 5-30 in my 2018 6.4 2500. Eliminated the cold start valve train noise that lasted for about 1-2 seconds. I am now convinced that the mfg spec for oil has nothing to do with protecting and extending the engine life. All about mileage and cafe numbers.
In my 03 5.7 1500 with 232k miles I run Penz conventional 10-40 high miles. 0 internal engine noise.

Bingo! Been saying it for years. But on the internet if you disagree with people on what type of oil to use that isn't in your owners manual they want to burn you at the stake

I know they have shell gas truck 0w20.... I currently have Mobil 0w30 AFE in the pacifica and it’s running great. It’s hot summer and it does tons of idling (baby naps) so the thick oil with higher hths I thought would be better.

Lol isn’t that the truth! Oil, gas, guns, brakes on and on and on. Do something not by the book and they want to lynch you.

I always have to request full synthetic 0W40on mine, and I have a feeling that the dealer screwed me on it once.

I check all gauges and readouts on my truck from time to time, including my oil pressure. Oil pressure has ALWAYS run at 53-56psi at 55 mph.

Except for one oil change where I didn't specify. After about a week, I started getting readings in the 44-48psi range. I watched and listened to the thing like a hawk. Never saw any other issues.

Next oil change, specified full synthetic 0W40again. I have never seen my at-speed oil pressure reading below 53psi since. (yes, idle it drops down to 30-ish. I do not let it idle much).
