I was having problems with certain times of the day the sun would nail me in the eyes reflecting off of the chrome trim ring around the center console shifter. I'm sure alot of people have been blinded by this. I took a scotch brite pad and scuffed up the ring really good and cleaned it. Then primed it with flat black primer and painted it with flat black paint. Made a HUGE difference. I did this several months ago during the summer. Also I couldn't see out of my rear windshield very well because the rear headrests were too tall, so I had an upholstery shop shorten the headrests for me for only $40 a piece. Great bargain if ya ask me. They are as tall as my old 07 Rams were. They are still very functional and I can see ALOT better out of the windshield now. I also built a box for my rear floorboard to hold my crap. I cut it out in the front to clear the controls on the back of center console, vents and all. Just thought this might help someone with a couple of ideas.box.jpg

Looks good. That trim ring has been an issue since the 4th Gens came out, pretty much everyone ends up painting them. However, the 2013 Ram still has it chromed! You would think Ram would have had changed it. Oh well....

Very nice. The trim ring hasn't bothered me yet. It has in other vehicles. I've wrapped them in 3M DiNoc before.

I'm waiting until it gets warm to paint the silver surround around the shifter and the radio. Already did the chrome around shifter last summer.

The chrome "Ring Of Bling" Was the first thing I did when I bought my truck lol.. as a lot of people have done due to being blinded lol. Funny how such a small thing could be such a PITA!

I never thought about hacking off some of the head rest. Nice touch!

all I've done is the shifter console ring and yes I did take it off to paint it. It just pops off with a little screwdriver or something. Be careful not to put too much pressure on the tan plastic around it cuz you'll scratch it. I dunno bout the vents etc. I'm sure they're the same.

Would anyone happen to know what the part number for the "console ring" or trim is by chance? I tried googling the number on the bottom side of it but didn't come up with any hits. I'm not completely against painting the chrome one I have to stop being blinded on occasion by the sun (come on, Chrysler... someone had to have noticed this), but if I could get a hold of a non chrome version that would let me keep my original stowed away if I ever wanted to switch it back.
