Folks on Turbo Diesel Register forum have tried to help with this, but no experience with it so far.
2018 Ram 3500 Cummins Aisin with 8.4 inch UConnect. For a few months have had intermittent, simultaneous failure of both the radio screen and the central digital EVIC screen between speedo and tach. The analog-looking gauges like those, temp, oil pressure, etc remain normal while central EVIC and radio are blacked out, blank. Function will return while still driving. Have not observed how the screen resumes for either, so far, just notice they are both “back” at the same time.
Our dealer, ****’s CDJR in Wilsonville OR has been conscientious and helpful, the service manager and his shop foreman working together the past week trying to replicate this, but without success so far.
They asked me to leave the Edge Insight disconnected so the OBD port has nothing connected to it, because sometimes having any device connected to the OBD port causes some kind of communication problem within the truck’s electronics. They want to eliminate that as a possible factor while we are trying to diagnose this.
Update after taking home:
Our dealer kept truck two weeks, driving it, and problem did not occur. They asked me to leave the Edge Insight disconnected from the diagnostic port, saying sometimes having anything connected there interfered with communication among components (on the CAN bus, or ???). I drove an hour home today and it did not occur (no Edge Insight connected).
This raises a new question, has anyone had or heard of the experience of having their Edge Insight or other Edge product produce radio and/or EVIC "blackouts"?
I'll drive w/o Edge for some time; if it does not have the problem, I'll reconnect the Edge and see what happens. I'm vidoetaping the dash now with my iPhone on a mount attached to a passenger seat headrest post while driving, hoping to catch it as it happens and when it comes back on video.
Hoping those on this electronics subforum will have some experience that bears on this puzzle.
Thanks

Sounds like a good plan, not driving with the connection. I would recommend leaving it off until/unless it glitches again. If it doesn't, you found your problem. No experience with the device, have you seen any reviews listing that problem or similar?

No, have not seen any comments anywhere linking Edge to such a problem. The only other speculation was a post on one of the forums guessing at the beginning of a TIPM failure.
That is a zillion-headed hydra, so I at least want this all well documented if it slides past our 8 year factory warranty in early 2026.
Part of what I suspect is factory dealer are reluctant to do deeper costly diagnostics if they can’t see it for themselves. Then who pays for the eUnderstandable , but leaves me hanging.

No wonder The Edge Insight / Evolution and the DiabloSport Trinity EX Platinum look like the exact same units. Same screens, case, cable and everything. Edge went to MSD in early 2000's and they are both now owned by Powerteq and that's owned by Holley.

Perhaps try looking at reported DiabloSport problems and see if there any links to what you are asking.

Only one thread there that’s close, with fellow saying use of Trinity monitor caused his “battery light” in a Dodge vehicle to come on and not go off. The Diablosport person responding asked if it could be a problem in the monitor’s cable. No subsequent answers. Nothing related to screen blackouts in the vehicle. Still no one here, on Diablosport, or on Turbo Diesel Register forum reporting a problem like mine, with or without use of an Edge Insight.

I did just message Edge tech support asking if anyone has reported similar problems. Added that I have their Turbo Timer and the necessary hardware tying the temp probe in exhaust manifold to the CTS2 monitor
