Hi:

I have a 2016 Ram 1500 with a 5.7 Hemi. For the past couple of weeks I have been experiencing intermittent stiffness in the steering. While driving the steering becomes stiff or hard to turn for a couple of seconds, then seems to go back to normal. It almost feels like the old days before power steering. Would anyone have any ideas what this could be? Are there any known recalls, or is this possibly an issue that has been experienced by others. The challenge with bringing it in immediately for diagnosis is that it happens so sporadically that it may not happen when taken out for a test drive. It would also be unfortunate if it was diagnosed incorrectly, and repairs down and that didn't fix the issue.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

No the only thing that you might could do with a good scan tool ( not just a cheap one ) if you could scan the EPS module for a code. I have an INNOVA that can do it ( 370 dollars ).

Some corrosion in a connecting harness perhaps?

We certainly understand the difficulty in diagnosing intermittent concerns, Robert. Our team does recommend bringing in your Ram as soon as you notice the steering concerns to give the dealer team the best chance at pinpointing the cause. Should that time arise, we are happy to provide an extra layer of assistance.
