Is It Possible To Order From The Factory, A Standard Output Cummins Dually--and preferably with the Aisin trans? I ask because I only want to haul a full sized, over the cab camper (a heavy one, with slide-outs), and don't need all that extra torque. More concerned with gaining a little fuel economy.

You can get the SO with the dually but to get the Aisin you have to step up to the HO.

I guess the 68RFE would hold up OK with the SO Cummins hauling a very large camper. I just wished I could know when I might be able to factory build a 2023 dually.

My HO DRW would get 16 empty, sometimes a hair more, and a bit over 10 pulling a 17K gooseneck toy hauler at 65mph. What are you expecting?

I'd like the SO with what is it the .355 gears? Hoping for 20 mpg highway. That would be what my old Toyota Tacoma 3.4l got, which would be phenomenal.

You are looking at 2x the weight and so much more wind resistance just for truck, then adding a giant wind catcher. Worrying about mpg is not something that is going to have a happy ending for you. Buy because it is the right truck for your purpose. Good luck.

Thanks. I can always use a little luck.

Don't recall seeing 3.55 IIRC they have 3.73 & 4.10 and maybe 4.44 but not 100% sure, a few years ago they had 3.42 but got rid of them in diesel trucks...

At one time I had the HO DRW 3500, and a 2500 with the SO engine at the same time. Didnt really notice a difference in the MPG between the two as a driver. Basically it takes a certain amount of fuel to move an object around regardless. The aisin tranny definitely felt a little harsher on shifts while towing in tow haul mode, and the exhaust braking is more potent too. All of the HDs are are only offered with 3.73 gears standard. 4.10s are optional.

I owned a 2018 2500 with the SO/68RFE and I now own a 3500SRW with a HO/Aisin combo. The SO would get 17mpg around town(empty), and the HO gets 15mpg. The SO would get 24mpg highway(empty) and the HO gets.....15mpg highway (empty). The Aisin shifts like it's angry, but in tow/haul mode it shifts like a paddle-shifter F1 car...Hard, stays in gear at appropriate RPM, no mush, and power output in lower gears is increased(empty). The computer holds back full power on these units when empty and in lower gears (1&2) so you don't tear up the drive train from the torque. That's all i can offer you for a comparison.

That's great fuel economy for such a large vehcile! The SO would be all I need.

Just wondering if anyone here might know. When will it be possible to custom order a 2023 3500 dually?

One more thing....My SO used about 1/2 of the DEF that my HO uses in the same trip, load(empty), weather, and roads/speeds. Since I got this HO, I keep a spare bottle of DEF in my cool room incase I don't have time to hit the store when it needs it. This thing uses a lot more DEF than the SO did.

Yeah. I read the HO has a lower compression ratio than the OS and has to have more aggressive emissions. Just one more reason to go with the SO!

The Allison automatic trans is used in Semi's and most City Transit Buses, Very Heavy Duty and Reliable, worked on them for 30 years. Just saying :)

Will Ram be offering the Allison in the 3023 3500s?
