Is it worth getting a 50 gallon tank on my 2022 Ram 2500?

The local off road shop quoted me $3000 installed for a titan tank. I think it was 52 Gallons or around there. I'm more worried about clearance or any other negative side effects of having a bigger tank.

other than $$ it costs to fill up, the tank itself tucks up in the factory location. It's a larger target under the vehicle if your off roading but that's always a gamble.
On the plus side it will give you range peace of mind. Granted most people don't drive 500 miles plus in one sitting but the range is there if you need it.

As @crash68 mentioned above, you should be fine.
I have 4 friends who did it theirs. The off-road a lot.

Seems to take forever to fill though

How much extra material are we talking about hanging down past the factory tank? Does it effect ground clearance any?

This thread is a few months old but I thought I would reply anyway. I bought a new 2022 2500 short-bed crew cab w/diesel and received it December 2021. I wanted an extended fuel tank so installed a Titan 52 gallon in January of 2022.

I bought the new Titan tank from Amazon (secondary seller)—> Titan Fuel Tanks 7030113 2013-2020 DODGE/RAM 2500 and 3500 52 Gallon extra heavy duty cross-linked polyethylene fuel tank XXL Mid-Ship Fuel Tank 4 Wheel Drive Only https://a.co/d/7ktJs3S

I had a local truck outfitter install the tank. He quoted and ultimately charged me about $500 but complained he should have charged me a bit more. So the tank and installation cost me about $1900 (Jan 2022).

The 52 gallon tank is a mid-ship belly tank and replaced the OEM 31 gallon tank. I kept the OEM tank and have it drained, cleaned, sealed and stored in case I ever need to reinstall it.

The new tank is very large and the center hangs down about 2-1/2” (or so) lower than the OEM tank. The new tank crowds the fuel filter that is mounted close by, but the filter can be changed. I wouldn’t feel good about doing any heavy-duty stump-jumping off-roading with this tank without a guard plate protecting it. (Not sure if one is even available.)

I mainly use my truck to pull a covered trailer long distance (highway driving) and wanted enough fuel to travel between hotel stops without needing to buy fuel... 425-500 miles. This 52 gallon tank has worked out great. I contemplated an auxiliary bed tank but didn’t want to loose the bed space. It’s too bad Ram only offers a 52 gallon tank in their long bed truck. If/when I ever buy another truck, I would install another 52 gallon tank, for sure.

When i traveled over to Arizona, i filled up everything 80 gallons total

Fuel was always at least 50 cents cheaper over there & if you used a ATM card, they charged 35 cents per 75 gallons.
none of the dime a gallon BS

I've got a long bed 2500, do you happen to have a part # of the factory 52gal tank? Or would there be any larger tanks than 52gal that fit under the bed in the stock location? We do a ton of long traveling so maximizing range would be great.

A larger tank is always desirable, I just don't know if I'd want to spend $3K on it.

Is there no factory option?
