I always thought Pedestrian Avoidance was a Driver not distracted, paying attention, driving within reason, and using the wider pedal in the middle, LOL. I would NEVA rely on an electronic gizmo to insure ne thing. Just my take on it and having "worked" a bazillion crashes in the past.

Ask your mother-in-law to cross the road as you approach......just kidding.

To answer your question, cut out a silhouette out of a big cardboard box and try it, Toyota has a video of that on their website to show off the features of their Safety Sense System. I used to own a 2019 Longhorn which had that feature and collision avoidance. I would never rely on it, seen it never activate and I tried (maybe I wasn't brave enough).

Is it a min-speed thing?

IE you have to be going fast enough for it to kill your MIL before it triggers?

I have a 22 Limited Diesel also with the pedestrian full braking package and like you after a couple idiots stepped in front of us we realized it never even chirps let alone brakes. Like others posting, in reverse it works perfectly. Problem is after 4 dealer visits and a Ram open repair case nobody knows how to repair it. We bought an inflatable boxing life size man to test with. It ran it over going 15 mph and at 30. Btw the one for Hwy driving likely also won’t engage - we figured this out after a couple people came within a foot of our truck changing lanes radically. Yes we all have to drive safely but this technology could save lives and our trucks. If anyone reads this and has had a truck successfully repaired please post.

Here is my experience with that collision system .
Was going through a drive through, while stopped at the order window, with nothing infront of me, it went off 3 times. This was not the parking sensor warning, it had the collision warning. It had been raining but stopped so thought maybe water on the window or something. It went away so didn’t think more of it. Ten minutes later was stopped at red light, I was at the front and nothing infront of me or on the other side. Turns green I accelerate , get almost to speed when the warning comes on and the brakes lock up stopping me dead in the road, with a transport truck barreling up behind me. He managed to stop as we were only doing maybe 30-35. To him it just looked like some ****** stopped dead in the road.
All I could think is what would have happened if I’d been on the highway!!
Turned it off and will never use that again!

I don't have one on my age of truck, I would think that if it was any good , a 5 gallon bucket sitting on the road should do it, That way no blood on the front. Fellow hit a small coyote here a few yrs back with a 14 or 15 sport, wiped the whole front end off and bust a steering or ? link
years ago , 1960's or so I had a set of air horns , they ran off a small tank of Freon about the size of a small propane tank, these days , some people's head would explode, but one toot on that and everyone got the hell out of the way.

Could be. When I back out of a friends driveway slowly, the truck goes into auto-brake hard. If I back out a little faster, the message screen says I'm going too fast for the Park Sense to work.
