Yea, my brothers old 99 has the infamous 4.0.

He still drives it.

I wonder if the Pentastar will get that kind of respect years after it's dis-continued? Could be. It's surely been used in a lot of vehicles.

I think I have a Red Line 5w30 addiction :anitoof:

Also blacked out the marker lights and turn signals

They do need a new power plant for the Wrangler, and even the base 1500. The 3.6 Pentastar is getting a bit long in the tooth at 14-15 years old.

I'm for keeping it a lot simpler when it comes to the Wrangler. Turbo's are great, if you are moving, to keep the CAC cooled down. Off road, rock crawling, that thing is going to heat soak.

I'd prefer a larger N/A V6 or I6.
I tend to agree. I must say my 5.7 has been great for 100K and still sounds perfect. I've only used PUP and Amsoil SS in it, Amsoil SS 5w30 for the last few years.

I have been digging around a lot lately and people seem to like that little 4 cyl turbo.

I've heard a few people wondering if they'd put the 3.0 Hurricane in the Wrangler which would be a beast really.
But I'm not sure it would fit.
Still, they managed to shoehorn a 392 in there so you never know...

Hurricane is roughly 5" longer than the hemi, so that could be problematic. I've love to see the 3.0 in a Gladiator, it seems like a good fit from a marketing and usability standpoint. My *guess* is it would take modifications to the firewall to fit at the very least.

It'll fit, though the accessories would need to be carefully repositioned.

So wait. I heard the hemi is going to stick around. Would you prefer the 3.0 Hurricane to a Hemi?

I think we're going to buy a 2.0 and run it a few years. I've never owned a Turbo, or a Wrangler. I'd take the Pentastar if the money is equal but probably won't pay a premium for it. If we keep the wife's Forester another year, it'll lose more trade value as that CVT gets closer to 50K. Depends on what deals are out there towards the end of January.

The 2.0 will be fine. If you plan on it being a trail rig I'd swing for the 3.6.

We're too old to be rock climbers, but do enjoy the "scenic" route. And we own some property with bad roads, hence the Forester and 4x4 Bighorn. I wish they would do the "41" color in a gas Willys. Guess it's just the hybrid.

Yet, the Rubis add about another 10k to the price...( and frankly the Willys is more offroad-centric than I'm likely to need)
We bought ours in Nov, when the dealers were starting to discount all their remaining stock so it was $5k off sticker.
But everything is more pricey than it was just a couple years ago...

Still, I believe I paid $36k for my 2014 JKU Sahara and it was on sale at the time...
Her new JLU is a lot nicer rig than that was for the extra $10k it cost..
Heck- the upgrade to 4:10 Dana 44s front and rear (with a rear locker) plus Rubicon suspension might have set you back close to $10K...
And don't get me started on the 8spd...
