We just bought a used 2014 Ram 2500 and it only came with 1 key. Any ideas on what we are going to be faced with as far as price for another?

Dealer quoted me a total of like $360 or so, but you can buy a blank Ram fob online for like $100, pay like $60 for the dealer to program it, and like $5 for the local hardware store to cut the blank key.

Not yet, but looking to do so. That's just from my last bit of pricing. You can always test it before leaving :)

Will do thanks! I've called some local locksmiths and gotten $345, $250...so was just wondering. I have seen the fobs online for $79-$100. Wish it had just come with 2!! I hate having just one.

Man I have like 4 extra, for them off ebay for 25 bucks and had the lock smith program them. I bought one from him that was a key and fob allin in one, and I think his charge for everything was 170. shop around, ask the locksmiths how much to program them, dont even bother with the dealer.

Just for straight fobs w/o the key cut outs on the top are only like 20 bucks for 2, I bought several of these and had my local guy program them. Just make sure you get a year correct one, this one wont work with a 2014 but worked with my 2010.

When I got my truck, it only came with one fob. I ordered two off of eBay for $25 each. They came with instructions on how to clone them but you had to have two working fobs. So I paid a local locksmith $85 to clone one from my original fob, I cloned the other one myself.

I actually just bought one off Ebay. Wife lost my extra. It was $100. Dealer charged me $28 to program and cut the key.

Batteries Plus website says $131 + $35 programming fee. I'm sure it varies a lot from vendor to vendor, but the fobs I bought online from third party folks when I had my F-150 didn't seem to last more than a few months.

A few yrs ago, for our Jeep (which didn't come with fobs), I bought 2 from the local Chrysler parts dept and had them program when we had our vehicle in for warranty. Think it was $75-80 ea, plus an extra $50-$60 programming. Sounds like it was more than buying from Ebay and having a locksmith do it, but saved some time. They're original Chrysler but they don't have a very strong (long) range.

Range is something I'd forgotten about. I had some knockoff fobs that had half the range as factory.

How long ago did you buy it? I bought a used Charger a few years back and after the paperwork was signed and they brought the car around after detailing it the salesperson hands me the key. I asked where the second key was. He said they received it with only one key. I told him where I came from when you buy a car you get two sets of keys. He said it would be like $250 or something for a second one and I just asked with a straight face if he wanted to turn an otherwise pleasurable car buying experience into a bad one over a key. They gave me a second key.

Today I was researching getting another fob for my wife's jeep because the spare got lost. Found quite a few sellers on Amazon and that programing does not have to be done by dealer or locksmith if you have 2 existing programed fobs. Unfortunately, without 2 fobs I'll have to hope to find a local locksmith that won't gouge me.

Thinking about the needed 2 to be able to program my own I think anytime I buy any new vehicles it makes sense to make an extra spare to take advantage of lower costs.

I got a brand new one programmed for around 60 bucks off a local locksmith. He had quite a few ram fobs laying around. I would suggest searching a local locksmith for a better deal!

There really should be a law that any vehicle sold come with TWO functioning keys/fobs. I had to get a 2nd key cut and programmed for my Mustang... cost like $150.
I agree, but people lose keys and the truck was used so that's just a negotiating point. My new truck came with one key because they lost one. They made me a new 2nd key after I complained and I got a call almost a year later to tell me they had a key for my truck. Picked it up and now I have 3 keys. Hooray!
