Hi all, got a predicament here.

Bought the 2014 Ram from a large Chevrolet dealer and only received one key fob with key. They said they would provide me with a replacement so I will have two fobs and keys.

Went to the dealer today as this was when the RAM person who services keys/fobs was there. They tried for 30 minutes to program a new fob and gave up. Says that they will have to special order one that will work with the truck.

I thought a key fob was pretty common thing these days and programmed easily, but apparently they change codes/procedures/security/whatever every so often and the fobs don't always work. Wonder if I'm getting the run around or does this really occur? Was thinking of buying one off the Internet but if it can not be programmed what's the point?

Any suggestions? I just know I will absolutely have to have a 2nd or 3rd fob in case of loss or breakage.

Recently, Chrysler changed the key code system. When requesting a key code for whatever reason, you have 12 hours to program it. Plus the keyless go ones are trickier to program & sensitive to interference.

Give them a few days to figure it out, then tell them to sublet it to a ram dealer.

You can always add the OEM remote start if your truck didn't come with it...comes with 2 new keys and your old one will still work. Now I have 4 keys lol

This too. Pretty easy install, & from what our accessory guy told me, some trucks are literally plug & play. If not, 1 or 2 wires need spliced in. Just need sales code added & reconfigured to work. Depending on labor costs, it's cheaper than 2 keys (at least at our shop).

This is something I was thinking about but the Chevrolet dealer rep said the 2014 fob/key for my truck was a "special order" (?). I guess they placed the order last Friday or maybe tomorrow and are supposed to call when it comes in. May go Monday to locksmith and see what they can do and/or stop by the local Dodge dealer to see what they have.
