While stationed in Iceland I had an old ‘63 Karmen Ghia. It was good in snow but almost zero heat and was 6 volts. If you had the headlights and wipers on and hit the brakes the wipers would stop. Between that and no defroster to speak of it was a treacherous drive to work!

I love discovering when kids break crap and don’t admit it. What drove you nuts most? The keeping it a secret or the fact they were too lazy to clear the windscreen to begin with?
YUP, when U start thinking of bad thangs to do to dem kids, LMAO. Not clearing off ice, making sure wipers free, you could call it a rookie mistake, more like too crazy, no common sense, and a costly mistake. Used to crack me up when I was stationed in upstate NY, and some of them PPL newly stationed up north. See them run out and throw a pretty warm bucket of water onto a windshield and then U hear that familiar snap, pop goes the windshield, LOL>

When I got to Germany in '84, we had old VW Transporter vans, no heater fans, just engine forced "warm" air that we used when in Garrison. U were lucky to get enuf air to just keep windshield from freezing up inside from your breath. In the field, since we had no "heat" in our M151A2's, and no doors or tops ne way, not really make a difference there, LOL. We were not allowed to roll out with any doors or canvas tops, we were "Combat" guys, right, we were a support unit, crazy Colonel we had.

Had something similar with a cross shift a few weeks ago except instead of the wiper motor burning out the wiper arm stripped. Big windshield on a loader with a single large wiper arm. 800 bucks. Of course on backorder so who knows when I'll actually have a wiper again.

Yeah, no remote start on that truck...he was rushing to go to work and did not clear the windshield off before using the wipers. New driver, ZERO experience.
Need to give sonny boy some experience. If you can F stuff up with no consequences you never learn much. I would have him pay for new wiper motor, and I would instruct him as he installed it. I also instruct on proper window clearing, car care, maintenance, tire changing etc. If he won't learn, there is always the bus. Should be easy for him to see which is more time consuming.

Already had that discussion....the money coming out of his pocket was enough of a reminder.

You all forgot another important point about starting your trucks to warm up while you remove the snow on the windshield. If the wipers are on when you shut off the truck, they come on automatically when you start the truck. So, you need to look and make sure they are off before you start the truck.
