Bought my used 2010 5.7 Ram 4x4 a few months ago. It’s at around 98k miles and so far so good. I noticed the rear differential had some oil kicked around it so figured the pinion seal went bad.

I took it in to have the seal replaced and new fluid and they found this large chunk of metal stuck to the magnet. He said he can tell there were some repairs to the rear diff before and it looks like the chunk was left from a prior issue that was fixed. He didn’t see anything new wrong. I haven’t heard any whining while I drive. Just wondering if you guys can tell what part this is and whether or not I should be looking into it more.

Pretty crazy! But it was driving before and its still driving now so there are good chances it will continue to drive in the future. It does look like leftover scrap from a repair. Best of luck!
