Well you see the gasket they put on versus the thick water proof one they should have put on. Super easy fix, and if Ram had the right one on in the first place my cab wouldn't smell like mold and I wouldn't be out the 300 dollars worth of stuff the water damaged.

It isn't a gasket, it is a roll. You can buy that MD anywhere, I do believe I got mine on Amazon or Ebay, I forget which one.

All of the stuff didn't bother me, but I had a Barry Bonds poster I got when I went to a playoff game, can't be replaced. I'm a big Giants fan, oh well.

Water tested, that totally fixes it. Super easy to remove the old gasket, even though it is glued it comes right off with a gentle touch. MD stuff self adhesive glues itself right over old spot, no cleaning even required. When you screw the light back in, go slow, it really grabs the seal well. The MD seals the void so much better then the thin gasket. Kinda stupid Dodge could have that fixed long ago. I used maybe 3 dollars worth of MD, so cheap fix.

I think I will try this instead of using butyl like the last 3 trucks. You think they'd catch on eventually?

Good thought. But here in Arizona, I bet that would dry and crack and leak worse than the foam however..

Just did this to my truck this morning. The old gasket was basically disintegrating and had just started to leak.110effe918c8caa010ad415db5def96f.jpg9b6feb65cb8e89bcbf07ad3dcf3dd42b.jpgc70252735defba2aca985e64a7353006.jpg

Put the MD weatherstripping on and man what a difference!

When I went to put it back on it was a little tight because the new weatherstripping is thicker. I would recommend checking the screws after a few weeks because I'm sure it will compress and form to the body of the truck and it might need to be tightened.

Thanks @Burla!

No, it will not crack. It isnt exposed to direct sunlight. The foam however, acts like a sponge... getting wet, drying, over and over again. It will break down and fail.

Good write up H395, it has been a great and easy fix I also found here. ****** me off the dealer knows about this **** for years and such an easy fix, and they are still using that crap gasket. I lost two items that were important to me from water damage. I am also mad at myself for not doing it earlier. When you see those pics from 395, you know every Ram owner should do this. If you stuff aint leaking with the old gasket, it is just a matter of time.

The funny thing is the dealer "fix" for this is RTV. Makes changing those bulbs a real joy...

Can anyone speak to the width and thickness of the weather seal that works? They sell many different sizes.

all my rams have all leaked from the 3rd brake light...(03,07,13,13) you would think that dodge/ram would have come up with a permanent fix for this a long time ago...

just had it warranty fixed on my 2500...they replaced the whole light and put in a new gasket...

This stuff...
Black Extreme Temperature Auto & Marine EPDM Weatherstrip by MD Building 01033

5/16" thick, 19/32" wide.

This is the one I used. It is significantly thicker than the paper thin stock one.

They had it in stock at Home Depot for $8. There's enough to do it probably 3x. I know because I didn't like my first job so I redid it.
