I was frugal (cheap ******* that I am) and didn't like the $200 price tag of Carven or Moe's 5" tips. I got a deal on some stainless works tips from a guy on here. I had extensions welded on, then had them powder coated black. I clamped them on, knowing I would do a body lift and need to adjust them later. Fast forward 3 months when I'm putting the body lift on. I took the tips off so we could grind down the rear bumper mounts per instructions. Lift is done, and we put the tips back on. I had one side, a buddy did the other. He chose the right size socket, and i did not. His were tight, and mine were not. I lost a tip somewhere down the road. FAWK!

Now, getting a new tip, and having the same weld and powder coating done was an option, but by the time I was done, I'd be close to the price of a set of Carvens. Bought the carvens and had them welded on today. (I had cut the factory bell off the stock exhaust.) Cost me $120 to have them welded on.

So my cost for the whole exercise was $290 for a new set of Carvens that are now welded on. Plus the $110 for the other set, that I only have half on now.

Maybe next time I won't be so flippin cheap! :owned:

@shadowhawk, PM me if you still have that tip. If it works out, I can put some money in your pocket and get a black tip I am considering for my single exit.

Congratulations, you now know you are a kinetic learner--memory enhanced by blows to the head (or perhaps ego). We've all been there.

In the Navy we used to say "SHIP Happens"

oddly enough, I know exactly what I need for the tires, and have no problem spending on those, once the CFO clears the expense.

I can't tell you haw many times I've been in the same situation. If I would have just gone ahead and spent the money it would have cost me less in the long run. My neighbor is always telling me some of life's lessons are free, while others will cost you. Most of the time it ends up costing me. But I got to tell him the same thing yesterday when he was cutting a dead tree on the bluff behind our houses. He was tied off but he didn't have a rope on the chainsaw. The tree started to fall and pinched his saw so he couldn't pull it out. Well as soon as the tree was falling it released his chainsaw which hit the ground and rolled rolled off the bluff. It's about a 100 foot drop. Lesson learned.

That sux, I used to climb for a living when in my early 20’s and remember the first time I dropped a saw, that was an expensive learning curve! Lol.
