I have found a really great price on a near new Leer 150 white fiberglass camper shell. It is currently on a 2009 RAM 2500 4dr 8ft bed. My truck is a white 2016 RAM 1500 regular cab 8ft bed. Anybody know if this shell will fit my truck? I know I will need a tailgate plate for a good door seal and that is OK. Thanks and any replies before Monday would be greatly appreciated!

I think you're "in" on this one. 8'=8', I believe, with no other reference needed. I buy crew-cab Rams, all with the short bed. The cap always fit from one year to another. The length of the bed was all that was ever needed to know whether it would fit or not.

Not so fast... The 2009 Ram 2500 is the old body style, and you have the new body style. Will it fit on your truck... Yes, but not properly. Depending on your needs/expectations this may still be a " Deal ", but If it were my Ram, I'd look elsewhere. If your hellbent on scoring this " Deal ", before you exchange any $$ place the camper shell on your truck, then check and see if you can live with it. Most of the New body style camper shells are "skirted" meaning they fit over and cover the factory bed caps on your truck. The camper shell your looking at is more than likely NOT skirted. If this camper shell ends up on your truck, just make sure you have about 2 fingers gap between the cab and the shell, to allow for body flex. This will lessen the possibility of damage to your truck.

My .02 cents from an EX long time Leer Dealer.

If it is real cheap get it. Then if it doesn't fit good enough for your liking , trade it in on a new or newer one.

It did on the 1500, but not until 2010 on the 2500/3500. This is all going to boil down to ...is the correct camper shell even on the donor truck, and/or the actual mfg. date of the donor truck. The camper shell "size code" is different for the 2 trucks. Here's the information to make an educated decision. Good luck !

Ah, I'm guilty of not reading closely enough. I failed to notice that "donor" truck is a 2500. This might be an interesting thread to watch. I wonder how cheap it would have to be to make it worth buying/trading.

At least 3 years ago Leer stop using the part that went on the top of the tailgate and have the tailgate "cap" on the liftgate window. You may want to inquire about upgrading the part that goes on the window as I remember my Leer dealer saying people broke the older style "tailgate cap" frequently.

I passed on the shell. Thanks everybody for your input. It is greatly appreciated. I went with a 10' heavy duty trailer instead. Figured I could get a lot more use with the trailer than a shell.

Besides, what I saved on not getting a shell I was able to put that toward a nice new set of 35/12.50R17's instead! LOL With that and a new set of pocket flairs, black steel bumpers front and rear coated in black bedliner coating I think the truck is just about where I want it! Ill post pics somewhere on the forum when she is all finished up! She may not be badged a stormtrooper but she is badged with Elite Call of Duty winged skulls!

8 foot.

Six foot four inches

Six foot six inches.

HOW long a bed was in a 06 dodge 2500?

Reason I'm asking is I'm looking for a good used bed cap and I'm getting numbers all over the place. BAsically, no one selling seems to know how long theirs is. One I'm looking at right now is advertized as six foot, but I asked the seller to check now he says it's 6.5 feet.

I tried looking this up online, getting data/measurements on these trucks isn't easy.

So I'm asking.

Is 6.5' likely? Or did he measure wrong and it's really 6' 4"?

I don't want to make a 2 hour drive to find the cap doesn't fit.

Thanks.

Norm
