We just bought this monster last week. About 11,500 empty. It pulled it much better than I expected. Once I re-gear it, it should pull even better. Have the 3.73's now & am putting in 4.56 this winter.

I towed our 38' 5er through some small mountainous highway (WV Turnpike) over Labor Day. Fully loaded it weighed in at 13,700lbs. With only the 3.73 gears I was really surprised at how well it towed. It stayed in 4th & 5th most of the trip. One thing I thought was kind of weird was sometimes on a down shift it would drop 2 gears at once! It was doing this going up hills & down hills. The engine did a great job of keeping my speed down going down the hills. Just had to tap my breaks about every 50 yards or so. I was also amazed of what little the truck squatted. When I brought the trailer home unloaded it only dropped about 2". I went ahead & installed airbags because I had already bought them, but probably didn't need them.

I do most of my shifting manually when towing. Especially going up hills I find by manually shifting to 3rd it wont make the two shift drop, 4th to 2nd.

#8000 dry Mallard 312 when camping. #18,000 Tractor/trailer when playing. 4th gear max in the hills. I didn't buy the truck for mileage although small tank for long distance trips will be an issue, exploring transfer or bigger fuel tanks.

I’m looking at buying an Attitude or Genesis the same size as your trailer. How does your truck do with that much load? Are you about 10k empty and 12-13k loaded?

We did a trip fully loaded. Full water, food for 7, full fuel station, a maverick max, and 2 dirt bikes. Tipped the scales at 13,686. Towed from home ~4500ft up to some mountain BLM land ~8100 feet and back. 8.6 mpg total. Would I prefer a Cummins, a supercharger, or more gear? Yes. Did it ever feel like not enough truck? No.

Here is my 2018 2500 6.4 4.10 truck towing my 9000lb boat and the 2nd pic is my son towing his 2018 Grand Design Imagine 2670MK last week. He towed it from Altoona, PA to Watford City, ND last week. 1700 miles in just over 2 days. His truck is identical to mine other than color. All the same options to a T. He got about 8-8.5 MPG and guessing his camper weighed about 7500-8000lbs loaded and he had an extra 500lbs or so in the truck.

My son said he may be heading to the Houston area from Pittsburgh towing his camper in about another month. He hasn't been told for sure but a good possibility and he would be there about 3 months living in his camper. He does have tow mirrors now but same camper and truck in this pic

Here is what I pull with. The TT loaded is around 6200lbs. I use a WDH pulling and the truck has great power pulling. I get approx. 8 to10 mpg doing 55 to 60 mph on flat land and no head wind. Truck is great and would not hesitate getting another one.ebd598602607c7e847970839d9eab33b.jpg

I really like the looks & floor plans of those Cougar's. If we ever go new, that might be what we go with. Have an old 06' Montana now. It's in super shape so probably won't be getting anything new for some time.

33ft Salem. 7500lbs empty. Traded my 1500 last fall for the 2500, wow, what a difference in towing. It’s so much more stable and relaxed going down the road.

Not a 6.4 but thought it an interesting contrast as ggrimm tows a shorter version of the same trailer. 8,000 Fully loaded with full water for Boone docking. CAT scale showed 3,440 steer 3,680 drive 6,880 trailer 13,980 CVW. IE replaced the unloaded steer weight, under max drive axle, and a tongue weight of 1,120 or 14.2%. Only a 1500 so its not as heavy & requires better setup for stability. But set up as such with WDH, built in sway control, airbags, & the trailer spread axles its two fingers driveable. With cruise control no wind on flat road she averages 14.0 mpg running 65. Naturally the aero nose and being a tuned diesel helps. Pretty much a max practical tow for a 1500 before you would be better served by an HD.
