Definitely not the stock pipes...the entire exhaust will be new when I'm done, just want to do it right the first time. The stainless works leads are true 3" duals all the way back to the factory muffler area, so I'm trying to decide what to do from there.
After the mufflers 2.5" is more then plenty on a mild 5.7,not enough heat left in the exhaust by then to justify 3".
My headers were double wrapped and then after the headers the exhaust was single wrapped to the mufflers,i used the mufflers as a poor mans expansion chamber, down side was it was hard on the mufflers,i'd go through a set of Magnaflow mufflers about every 1.5 years, they'd literally burn out,but they still looked new on the outside, lol. Good news is Magnaflow has lifetime warrenty and i was getting the mufflers through my local Crappy Tire,so i'd just take them in and get a new set ,lol

Good info, appreciate it. Kinda pissed that I’m about to drop this much money on some damn headers, but I guess it is what it is. Any opinion on 1-7/8 vs 1-3/4? Doubtful I’ll ever do any more performance upgrades to this truck other than intake, exhaust, tune, since I plan to build a street truck some day.

Either or work on the 5.7,but 1-3/4 usually fit better. I'd wrap them even if they're coated.Wrap causing them to crack is a myth from the days of the old mild steel headers.I'd rather replace a set of headers every 10 years, then fix wiring/hoses every 5 years that have been heat baked from the heat radiating off the headers. You can always buy headers, these days getting replacement wiring harnesses or proper molded hoses not so much, something to keep in mind if you hadn't thought of wrapping them.

Soak it in water, and wear long sleeves while wrapping them, the $h!t is nasty to work with if you've never wrapped a set of headers, lol. I chuck the headers in my vise so they're stable and not moving around,if you've never wrapped a set of long tubes, allow yourself 2 evenings to do the job,as it's time consuming to do a nice wrap job.I've used Stainless steel hose clamps in spots as sometimes the stainless steel ties can be a b!atch to work with

How many rolls of wrap did you buy,i usually get 3 rolls of the 2" wide by 50ft rolls, and 1 roll of 1",you'll have left over wrap, but it's better then running out and having to run and get more.Whatever left over you have, you can use behind the headers .

I'm old school i always over buy, i'd rather have too much then not enough,as i know i'll find somewhere else to use up the left overs;) .You can probably make 2 rolls work if getting another roll is a pain in the rear.
There's several video's on youtube ,if you've never wrapped a set of headers before,it's worth watching a few of them just to get an idea of where to start wrapping etc,

I can always order some more off Amazon if I run out. Thought about wrapping my CAI tube too if I have enough.
I’ve never wrapped any before, but several months ago I watched those vids you posted. I’ll try to dig them up and rewatch before I tackle it.

Looks like I'm gonna end up with the SW headers as my TSP's that I ordered beginning of March won't be here for at least another 10-12 weeks.
I'm trying to decide how to finish out my exhaust past the SW "leads", would you happen to have a pic of your setup? Thinking about just keeping it dual 3" all the way out with two 3" in, 3" out mufflers to my 5" tips
I had to get new cat’s installed last year, they cut out & replaced part of the y-pipe.
I took these this morning, let me know if you want some from a different angle, my exhaust “dual” except for the 24” of the muffler.
I have thought about doing a true dual, but have seen some post’s that a single set up the right way can actually produce hp, something to do with the back pressure.

Awesome man, appreciate it. I think I'm gonna run two of these (whichever one lines up the best per exhaust shop), then get them to do a reducer to 2.5 after the muffler, out to my 5" tips. Should be a pretty nice setup when complete! Are those Thuren Kings I see under there? 1746280742730.png

No problem! Yes on the thuren/kings, they are stage 2, supposed to be double stock + 10%.
I have a set of Bilsteen’s I used while having them rebuilt, nothing bad to say about them, but not as firm as the kings.

Hey Adam, I need to get a **** for my AFR gauge welded in this section between the collector and the cat and I'm wanting to get it done before I start the install. Is there plenty of room on the topside there for O2 sensor clearance?

Should be lots of room to mount it in that area, but before hand, crawl under your truck and eyeball it up,while imagining roughly where the headers and midpipe are going to go. That's roughly where i had mine mounted.

I did crawl under there, and eyeballed it best I could, but without knowing the exact line of the headers, it was hard to gauge. It LOOKS like anywhere from 10-2 (o’clock) just before that bend would clear fine, but just wanted fo double check.

can you just put in where the #2 O2 sensor should go?
im guessing you're going to turn that one off anyway, now?

There is a lot of space, at least on my truck, got a couple pic’s front & rear but looks like you only need the front.
