I've been looking for a tow vehicle for a while... wanted a manual

heard and read a little about the auto trans behind a 2001 ram V10. Is this trans any good for towing?

Not sure which one this is, could be the 47rh or the 47re, wont know until I go look at it.

which one would be better... or are they about the same....

thanks

In 2001 there will be the 47RE behind the V10. The "47" is the factories way of listing the torque rating of the trans, and for the most part the two should be equal. The difference in the two are (to over-simplify) the governor control circuits. The RH series units were used up thru 95 (on gas engines) and the "H" designates a hydraulic based governor circuit using weights on the tailshaft to monitor road speed and adjust governor pressure for shift points. In 1996 they went to the "RE" series, and the "E" means they are using the electronic speed sensor to monitor road speed and an electric transducer and governor solenoid system controlled by the computer to modulate governor pressure and shift points.

By 2001 they had worked out most of the "quirks" of the RH/RE transmissions, and properly serviced are a fairly competent towing trans.
