Looking at the 2500 in my into thread. Is there any major isues i sgould watch out for? I know they steer like a heard of cows but i like it that way because then no one wants to drive it (girlfriend, parents etc) but other than that things like transmission, smoke, signs of gasket faulure (had a 360 in which the plenum gasket was fried) thanks jist don't want to get myself into a money pit pile of ****. She only has 180k on her.

I don't know the first thing about the V10s.
I think only and 180k don't belong in the same sentence.

That's a lot of miles, especially since you don't know how it was run/treated.
It would certainly be a fun truck, but it's going to be a lumbering beast, that chugs between gas stations and little more.

Don't be confused that it's got a Viper motor in it, it doesn't.

That LA based V-10 makes good torque but drinks gas like a mother. i believe even worse than the 360 magnum. And there is a ton more performance parts available for the 5.9. Plenum is easy.

But that V-10 is cool. :)

The V10's can actually get better mileage than the 360 if you don't drive them like you stole it.....

12 isnt better than 13.5 - and my empty 5.9 on the highway can get to 17.5, a v10 will never come close to that - the best ive ever heard on the highway was 14mpg - going around town all the v10's that have been in the family and friends on farms see about 8-10mpg.

Sure 12 isn't better than 13.5, but the V10 has almost twice the power of a 360.

And how in hell do you get 17.5? I'm going to have to call BS on that until I see some actual numbers. lol

Uncle has a 360 in his 01 and gets about 16 on the highway. Its a 1500. My first dd was a 95 ram 2500 with a 360. Got about 8-10mpg highway unloaded.

I'm stuck between a cummins with a blown rear end and a 6.5 turbo diesel that needs nothing. And this truck. If i get the 6.5 i will still be looking for a ram as a project truck.

Westgate of the Indiana Toll Road to Exit 13 on the Ohio Toll Road - Filled up in Indiana and drove with no stopping. 3.55 Gear Ratio - Cruise Control the whole time - completely empty minus me driving and a change of clothes - Fresh tires were under her and i keep her tuned up to a T - she got 17.6mpg on that trip also had a west wind that helped a lil

I would go with the Cummins with the blown rear end over the 6.5 or the V10.
I'd lose the 6.5 cuz not Ram, and I would go with the Cummins over the V10 just on the simple fact that mileage will pay for replacing the rear if you keep the truck long enough. Also around here Cummins trucks hold value considerably better than V10 trucks, don't know how it is where your at but everyone wants an old Cummins up here.

What size tires do you have? That makes a huge difference.

265's - im trying to keep this truck as much of gas mizer as possible where i can. Her main job will be pulling around my Ford GPW when im done with the restoration on her and since most reenactments I go to will be 3+ hours away I want the dodge to be as nice to me as it can be.

having 35's on my 79 F250 with the 460 in it is my truck for terrible gas mileage - it seems really stupid that my oldest vehicle gets the best mileage:gr_grin:

Went and looked at the cummins. Was a glorified pile of ****. Needed way more than a rear end. Had a hell of an injector knock and the tranny fluid was toasted. Pulled the trigger on a 1994 k2500 6.5 turbo diesel. 200K miles with bran new injectors, pump, and turbo. I am now looking for a ram 1500 4x4 reg cab short box as a play toy. Will dd the 6.5 and use it to tow around the ram as by the time i am done with it it won't be street legal. Lol. Want something i can put a big block in and some 44's and go to car shows and the ocasional trip to the sand dunes.
