Hi y'all,

New here, I recently had a rental 2019 Ram 1500 Bighorn, loved driving it so much that I decided to get one. Have done some research, know about the problematic early diesel models. Was there a particular good model year? Any model/year I need to avoid?

My budget is around $15k, looks like that will get me a 2013/2014/2015 Hemi 5.7 with 130k-250k miles depending on the trim. Don't mind high mileage, don't drive all that much myself. Need a crew cab for the car seat and heated seats, it gets cold here up in Canada lol. Any advice will be appreciated!

Laramie's have heated seats in 4th gens. That's a higher trim. Thats going to work against your budget. Tradesman/bighorns will be easier to fit.

I imagine you need 4x4 up there but the gas V6 is fine if you don't plan to tow much. So that might help to fit your budget.

Crew cab trucks hold thier value well so you may have to save more to get everything your wanting.

Good luck!

Are you talking 2x or 4x4? The prices around here for something decent, and not too high of mileage are quite a bit higher than $15k. But, maybe up there they're a little cheaper. I don't know that the 2013/14/15 ...if one yr is better than the others. At that age, it'll come down to how it was driven and maintained. Just keep looking, you might get lucky and find an exceptional deal.

Good luck

In 2014 there was a boat load of upgrades done to the 1500. Many of them pretty great. Since you are in Canada too, one upgrade that you might appreciate was the auto louvers right behind the grill. So I would move your dial up one year. 2014/2015/2016

The major vehicle upgrades started with the '13 model year, they have the AGS also the first year of the ZF 8 speed transmission.

It's hard to find a 2X4 in Canada, most are 4X4 up here ,as you can hardly give away a 2 wheel drive truck in Canada, lol

My only suggestion is if you check one out, listen closely at cold start up and most important at warm idle. If you hear any ticks, taps, or clatter, walk away! Good luck, I absolutely love my 2014.
