Hey, just curious. Got a 97 Ram 1500, what other year Ram parts would fit? Found power steering pump and water pump from 95's and 98's, just wanna know if its compatible.

I would say everything from 97 on up to 99 would be compatible. The trucks had a few changes from 95 to 96 (obdI to OBD2 and switch from hydraulic trans to electric trans) so be careful there. On 00-01 there were a few changes with suspension and steering components (larger ball joints i believe?), the rear brakes (01 has disk brakes in the rear), and drive shaft yoke. Other than that, everything else should swap over.

You say you found a water pump off a 95 that fits. If you where planning on using junk yard parts from a 95 I would would strongly discourage you from using a water pump from the junk yard.
Didn't think you were but just making sure;-)

I agree. A new water pump isn't that expensive. Plus, you don't exactly know the mileage or history of the vehicle you got it from.

Actually...

In 2000 The brake system switched from Delco Moraine to Bosch. Two piston caliper fronts and 11x2-1/4 rears. The booster is also Bosch.

The evap system changed in 99 I think, after all the issues of the earlier system. No EGR either and the 99 up got rid of the 2 in 1 out converters that plug so easily. Dash, gauge clusters and seats changed.

I don't know the changeover year but earlier front diffs used kingpins and later ones used ball joints.

I have a 2004 rear 1500 in my 96 indy pace truck bolts right in. Gives you disc brakes.

How is the braking performance with that rear? Did you have to change anything with the master cylinder? Wondering if a similar swap would work for my truck...

I wouldm,t say breaking improved, but it certainly didn,t get worse. I went with it because I have a lowered truck riding on 20,s and the visual appeal is much nicer than rusty drums. Bolted right in with no other changes. There,s lots of them at the wreckers too.

Awesome thanks for that answer. Now I have options... Need to either rebuild the rear or do a swap. If a later model 9.25 rear works, that would save me a bunch of time and money!
