I am looking to reduce the work load on my 99 F250 7.3L 4WD ranch truck. Its been a great work horse all these years but its time to give it some help and wanted to ask for recommendations on a Dodge RAM that is similar to my F250. Of course the improvement in HP/cu inch has greatly improved over the years so that's the easy part. At one time Dodge used the Cummins /Allison combo. Do they still?
One thing that I really like on the F250 is the extended cab (not crew cab) with an 8ft box. I use that area for easy to get to tools, ice chests etc. Is the Mega cab the same as the extended cab? I have not been able to find a Dodge model with a mega cab AND 8ft box. Has Dodge ever made such a model.

Anyway I would appreciate recommendations for a Dodge Ram that is mostly used for ranch and farm work but occasionally hauls a 30ft RV into the mountains.

Kind Regards
Doug

Welcome to the forum.

I have the crew cab with 8' bed. Plenty of room in the back seat plus it folds flat.

Unfortunately the MegaCab is bigger than the crew cab, and there isn't an extended cab on any of the Ram trucks anymore. In the HD line you can get cabs in regular, CrewCab or MegaCab. Bed sizes are 6.4' or 8' (MegaCab is 6.4' only). There is a company in Texas that will extend a MegaCab truck to have an 8' bed.
You might like the Ram Boxes which are basically tool boxes built into the sidewalls of the box.
As for the Cummins, I don't believe there was ever an Allison transmission behind the CTD. You can get an Aisin behind the HO version in the 3500 (SRW or DRW).

with the 4th Gen body styles .. CLASSIC Body Style
The short (5 ft 7 in) and standard (6 ft 4 in) bed sizes are compatible with the Crew and Quad Cabs in both the standard and Classic builds.

The long bed (8 ft) is only available with the Regular cab on the RAM 1500 Classic.

@dcara55135 welcome to RamForum. If you haven't already, have a look around/ask some questions in the Heavy Duty sections within some of the generation forums.
