Less than a minutes time to pour some oil down into the pump, under $1.00 in oil, vs bring down a motor that might cost how much to replace/rebuild because it spun a bearing or whatever. Boss would not like that much would he and one pissed off customer, mind you he/she gets a new motor out of the deal.

Oil is the lifeblood for a motor, take it away for just a milsec and damage is done, minor maybe, major maybe. I pre fill my oil filters, prime new/rebuilt motors until they make oil psi via a priming tool of some flavor, use top grade assy lube/paste when assy a motor. I will take extra time to make sure the motor always has oil moving as soon as possible it's just a good practice to do this.

I have a decade or two as a mech, have I had a motor fail after I rebuilt it yes more like two or three. No one is perfect and I learned from those failures so what I could do to help have that never happen again, its not cheap. The more time/steps I take to prep things so that risk is lowered is time/steps well spent.

I hope you never have to come lick my boots.

Gotta oil leak on left side near rear of engine. "Think" its the oil pressure sensor/switch, which is a solid state 3 wire sensor controlled by the ECM. This stupid sensor, like most all sensors, are difficult to even see, much less get to. After disconnecting both battery "hots" and removing the battery cable to the starter I can get a socket on it....But, my 11/16, the largest I have, wont fit.

Question; will a 1 1/8 or 1 3/16 or 1 1/4 fit or will it take a metric?

Am hoping its the "O" ring thats bad and not the sensor which is $200 plus tax at O' Rieleys, Autozone or Napa.

But... One can buy these sensors on Ebay from 20 bucks to $30 with free shipping. But...remind me to relate a long, sad, sordid tale of woe about buying any kind of sensor on Ebay.

TIA;

Should be a 1 1/16th instead of 11/16.

Yep 1 1/8 will work sometimes if you twist it right... or a 32mm. Btw if you are looking for stock replacement and have time for shipping.... Rockauto.com is awesome for OEM replacements

1 1/8 is still pretty finicky.... Best just getting the 32mm and going that way.

32mm will take it off, if your truck is reading oil pressure and you have a leak then it's the O ring or something else leaking. But if you end up buying a new one you will need a smaller socket again, I forget size but can look of you need me too. Try spraying rather to clean off block and then run it and see where you're leaking.

32mm to remove stock sensor 6point!
And I think the other is 1-1/16 or 1-1/8 6 point

Thanks, BTW I should have indicated that these are deep sockets. A standard wont fit.

Also, Loews, Homedepot or Ace don't carry anything that large, Norther Tools does and probably Sears.

Well I found my oil leak. Push rod cover gasket. Texas Diesel Power wants $500 to replace. They charge $90 an hour labor which is cheaper than the dealership. Don't blame em. I'd probably charge more. Gonna tackle it next week. Done enough research. Parts gonna run about 30 bucks, unless I screw up. Everything comes off the left side of the engine, air intake, something else, injector pump, fuel lines, lift pump, etc.

alright folks I AM AN IDIOT!!!!!!!!!! I had repalced some sorts of air sensor (looks exactly the same) and when i had lost all hope it was having trouble starting, becuase I had the filter laying sideways....when imoved it I noticed another sensor below, a 3 days job coudl have been solved in 20 min :( just remember if you are changing a sensor, even if you truly have no oil pressure there will be a LITTLE oil come out when you take sensor, go ahead and have a laugh!!! ahhh
We all get jobs like that. Keep it in mind so when you come across another truck with the same problem it can be a 20 minute job :)
