My buddy bought a 2017 Ram 1500 two wheel drive truck with a V6 in it. He was thinking about putting a leveling kit on the front and I suggested lowering the rear to match the front and level it that way. I haven't ever messed with the rear suspension. Is it as simple as putting 2" dropped springs i the back? Anything we need to know about before doing it?

Jack up rear so you can loosen rear shock bottom bolts(21mm head/24mm nut), jack up higher to allow OEM springs to fall out. Install new springs on existing isolator ring(optional 1/4" more drop), jack up to install lower shock bolt/nut, setter down.

Much easier than any front level and will outperform/not stress any components. No reason to front level unless you want 35+ inch tires.

I've got a mcgaughys 44055 2 inch rear lowering springs if you're interested.
Also have a set of belltech shocks front and rear for a 2/4 drop, one of the studs on the front shocks is a little bothered up, the other front and both rear are a ok, with about 3000 miles on it.

Just to add to Tims post, odds are you'll have to unbolt one side of the panhard/trackbar,and if he has the OEM swaybar, you'll have to unbolt the endlinks, and pay attention to the brake lines ,don't over extend them when you jack the truck up,and be careful with abs sensor wiring, just to be safe, unclip the abs wiring from the brake lines

just did it yesterday... maybe due to the unlevel ground i ended up having to take the passenger side caliper off in order to get enough droop for the spring to fall out... otherwise as said pretty straight forward and simple. 21mm nut and bolt though not 24 ... at least for the canadian trucks...

I unbolted the bolt that holds the brake line/abs sensor wire retainer bracket and got enough space to pop the rear
springs out with a slight spring flex move . True, I was on a level driveway.

Wheel removal, lower shock mount, sway bar end link bolt, brake line/abs bolt and done.
Reverse the process for assembly.

Hellwig sway-bar must allow a bit more droop than the OEM bar.
