2014 1500 5.7 hemi just hit 100k...shortly after i noticed the playing card in bike spoke sound on deceleration...after doing some research and going on a drive i determined the noise goes away when i manually put the truck in gear 8 while in drive. No noise & truck runs like a top. Besides the obvious fuel consumption change with me disabling eco mode what kind issues am i risking by doing this? I'm a novice mechanic and have changed timing chains in my wife's pathfinder but this seems like a much tougher job changing the cam phaser/tensioners/chains. Id like to take it to a pro for this job but don't wanna spend the money right now. Has anyone else went this route? Did the chain eventually fall off? Or did it run fine longterm with this little shortcut? Thanks for any input.

This has been discussed a lot here so it depends on what you believe.

Here are the cliff notes.

Most have not noticed any real mileage difference by turning it off.

Some believe the cam has better oiling with it on (I am not one of them).

I personally turn mine off every time because I hate it.

If you want to really dig into some reading do a search.

If your truck has an aftermarket muffler ,they tend to make the transition and noise much more noticeable. The factory put giant school bus mufflers to mask the sound, when they are replaced with louder aftermarkets the mask is off and irritation is often high.
