USCG Combat Squadron One/West Coast Special Services, 1965-1970 (I worked a wacko double job in intel, and also with Special Services...making the service look good to the public); then a whole lot of disaster response work and forensics in the meantime. Since retirement (I'm 73) I've been serving as a logistics coordinator for Team Rubicon on Kaua'i Island in Hawai'i (tough job, but someone's gotta do it...LOL...). I've had a succession of Ram's since the 70s (when we still called them Power Wagons) and have never regretted the commitment. I now have a 97 1500 with 5.2 and the usual age issues (that I bought at auction), but have gone through just about everything, and decided to continue to rehab her (gave it the name of Boudaecca) and then donate her to the local (but very good) disaster response team as a mobile FOB, comm center, and util truck. I found this board while searching for hints on my motor having some idle issues...and concluded that yeah, it's most likely a vacuum problem. These old vehicles (any marque) have their plastic parts (like vacuum hoses) get brittle and decompose over the years. I've already replace a lot of such "stuff," but it keeps me off the streets. Nice to have this resource.

New to the forum, also new to owning a truck. Also military but on the Canadian side of the line.
Joined the CAF in 2004 with the Military Police (1 Military Police Regiment).
Currently still serving but as a reservist (voluntary fun, no demanded boredom)
How do I submit to have the banner added?

Newbie here, 1st Ram Truck - and loving it!! (reps to Maxwell Smart).

USAF 1972-1979, SSGT (E-5) when I got out.
Computer Maintenance, Q31 at 1AccomGrp, Offutt AFB (SAC Underground) and Q7 at 26ADS, Luke AFB (NORAD Blockhouse). Huge things, took up acres of floor space.
Considered making a career of it but decided to get out when they wanted to put me on flying rotation with... rats! forgot what they called it, similar to Looking Glass but different. Maybe replaced Looking Glass. It was a long time ago.... Anyways, it was a 7-week cycle. Had a home base and then would fly for a while and stay at next base in rotation until we got back home. Rinse and repeat.....I didn't care for it but wife said "No f-g way!" She was *really* against it.
Worked a successful civilian 40+ year career in computer fixin' and runnin'.
Had a great time, still in contact with the guy that was my OJT Trainer at Luke. Also had some recent (2005-1017) get-togethers with a few 26ADS guys when we lived in the Phoenix area.

@Bob_M Thank you for your service.

I was also USAF and enlisted in late 1972. I too seriously considered a career in the service but watched many good people get RIF'd during 1975 & 1976, so I decided not to invest another 4 - 6 years only to be in a similar situation at the end of that enlistment.

Welcome to RamForum.

Looking Glass - you Mean the NAOC? Or was that what it became later? It was the one out of Offutt that always had to be in the air - one couldn't land till the other was airborne and operational. That ended while I was at Offutt along with SAC becoming STRATCOM.

I didn't join till '82 and went into computer ops and later computer maintenance when the career fields changed. Still doing it now, just working as a contractor for the Army Reserves. Sometimes the translations are difficult.

And just to poke the bear(s):
