Hi guys. I'm finished with my Cam swap after some lifter failure / cam failure on my 2013 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi, and got everything back together. Ready to fire it up this weekend to test everything, but took a pause on the tuner side of things. I *think* i may have made a mistake with my order from MMX, and didn't catch it until now. So what I got from them is:

- *RECOMMEND - Please Include a Full Set of Hellcat Lifters and MDS Plugs With My Order
- 5.7/6.4 2009+ Camshaft (VVT) "RAM ONLY"
- New Mopar VVT Camshaft Bolt
- Timing Set (Partial)
- Diablosport Predator 2 for 2009-2014 ONLY Dodge Ram Trucks - RAM 1500 ONLY!

So here's where I'm wondering that I messed up. I THOUGHT I got a camshaft that didn't require tuning, but looking at their website, they've got their own camshaft that says "No Tuning required"....but of course that's not what I got. AND to top that off, I did not get a phaser limiter, bc I was thinking I don't need one. I did receive a Diablosport tuner, though, knowing I needed that to turn off MDS.

So since its the weekend, and I really wanted to get the truck running, I can't ask MMX. Those of you familiar with MMX cam swap, do I need some sort of tune (other than turning off MDS) for this particular Camshaft? And even worse....do I need a phaser limiter installed too?

Thanks guys!

Need more info on the cam
Can you not go to MMX web & see which cam you got along with the phaser lock required?
If it list the option to buy limiter/lock it's required.

Yes unfortunately I don't have anything more from MMX. It was the build your own kit for the MDS delete, so I'm sure I made some wrong clicks. The box for the Camshaft has the p/n as 53022314AD, with its origination address from a Dodge dealer, so it looks to be the Non-MDS Mopar camshaft, if that answers anything.

To your point, if limiter was offered; on the website it DOES let you go with Partial or Full timing kit. Of course I went with partial, which does not include the limiter. However, there was no disclaimer saying that it was needed if you choose the "5.7/6.4 2009+ Camshaft (VVT) "RAM ONLY"" camshaft. But it certainly was an option.

There are no options for limiter or lock on that link.
Click on info beside options
I do believe you are good for that cam without limiter/lock

As far as tune required, not 100% sure but the way they word it in the description at the bottom......it just needs mds tuned out

Should verify with MMX for sure!!!

looks like you got a stock replacement non-mds cam, so you should be good to go with what you have. use the diablow to turn off mds.

Not trying to thread jack here, But why did you go with the MMX kit instead of something else? I was looking at this.

No particular reason. I spent so much time looking at all the options. I originally pieced together everything from mopar to do it, but ended up returning it bc I thought the tick was going away (it was not).

A lot of people on this forum are fans of mmx so I went with them on a whim essentially bc I just needed to pick something and roll with it. Admittedly, I’m a not in the camp that MDS has anything at all to do with the tick. But the non-mds package was cheaper.

I’m not huge with wanting performance on this truck. I’ve got a scat challenger so all my fun comes from that. I just need this truck to run, and that’s it. So to answer your question, no reason bc I don’t really know much about the differences anyways.

You were correct! And MMX confirmed it.

Plugged diablosport in to turn off MDS and the tuner failed and bricked my truck :( so now Diablo has my entire PCM to get it back to working

Diablow has been iffy since they began supporting dcx applications. An SCT tuner (w/ a pre-loaded comp 268 cam tune) saved me when mine bricked.
