Thinking about buying and installing but had a question. Noise, is the throttle body a lot louder after install. I don't want it to sound like the ole qudrajets when you flipped the air breather lid upside down.

WHOOOOOPPPP goes the quadrajet...

I've heard the Moe's offering in a 5.7L HEMI truck and only at WOT do you get something similar to a big 4BBL sucking in air molecules. The owner of the truck says the biggest change was much better throttle response which I've also experienced on my vehicles with an aftermarket CAI.

Oh, I remember them Thermoquads too!

You'd see that Rochester Quadrajet on a lot of GM engines as Rochester Products was a division of GM.

The Thermoquad was an invention of Carter Carburetor and was a favorite of the Chrysler group of cars. Interestingly enough, Carter also produced Quadrajets under license when Rochester production lagged in meeting GM demand. Interestingly, Carter produced the very first American 4-BBL carburetor for Buick's 1952 Straight 8 engine.

Ford was in the carburetor business as well, producing the Autolite branded units for their production lines. American Motors and Jeep also used them with some of their larger displacement V8 engines.

Of course, the hot rodders of the late 40's, 50's & 60's found ways to alter and use all kinds of brands on all kinds of engines thanks to the pioneering specialists of the era like Vic Edelbrock Sr.

I preferred Quadrajet carbs myself. Probably because several of the GM cars I owned over the years came with them including my '69 Oldsmobile 98 Holiday Coupe and 1971 Chevrolet NovaSS. I learned how to make 'em work.

Sorry for the ramble. I was just caught up in reliving some of those hot rod days of my youth. :D

I still remember stomping my 70 GTX 440 Thermoquad 4 bbl, 411 dana rear to the floor, hearing that beautiful loud moan and being laid back in the seat while the rear tires was breaking traction and smoking while going in a straight line very rapidly. Always wondered how fast it could go if I could make it gain traction. I was one of the 3 Mopar guy's that was from there. Nobody ever wanted a piece of me with that car. Those were the days and I will always miss that era!

I think you'll like the Vararam(if that's what you are asking about). Hundreds of us do. Best performance(track proven)aftermarket CAI on the market, with the exception of Moe's Custom made track intake. It performs best at WOT or at highway speeds. IMHO it doesn't sound near as good as those carbs some are reminiscing about----and yes I remember too!!!!!

Oh no worries, I love to hear about the Carbs. I was GM trained in my younger days and was pretty good at tuning. So many back then not only needed the ignition tuned they also needed the carb right. I've rebuilt many of them and I think the quadrajet is a really nice set up. Once you understand the different fuel circuits and how to properly adjust them. When I would get both ignition and Carb right the small and big blocks would wind up nice. Love to hear that engine and feel the back of the seat when testing.
