Pardon my photoshop skills (or lack thereof), but does anyone know if the cables going to the shifter knob would allow it to be moved to the center console? My arm naturally rests on the console, so it would be much more intuitive to use the knob in that location as apposed to reach to a random spot on the dash. As others mention, I get a little mixed up between the keys, the shifter and the radio knobs at times. I think having the shifter on the console would be better. I haven't quite figure out how to wrap around it to make it look more original to the truck, but I want to find out if it could be done first.

And, if the 4X buttons are seperate, I may leave them on the dash and only move the knob/PRND portion.

Apparently the Durango has it in this location. Come on Dodge, give us an accessory to make this happen in the Rams...

I was going to mention the Durango... i'm sure you can fab something up, although I don't know how you would rework the hole created in the dash!

But if you do that, your wife/passenger loses all of that storage space in the center console for her stuff! :)

I've eventually gotten used to the location, but it would be a little handier to have it in the center console. I like your thinking.

There's already filler plates for those holes....

Would this be the wrong place to say once again that I want my column shifter back? :D

(yeah yeah, technically I'm between Rams right now; that'll be fixed in a month or two)

I don't have the center console but I agree with the Op completely. It should be possible to make an extension harness to move it with some digging. Possibly even use the posts from the Durango console to improve the finish.

Perhaps member Cuylertech and harness-connection.us folks will want to fab something up to sell.

I have ZERO fab skills or abilities, so if someone has a 3D printer or fab skills, I'd pay in a heartbeat.

Subscribing. I have never liked the rotary knob on the dash. Family car is a '14 Durango and the knob is in a MUCH better location being on the console. I would actually prefer to have a pistol grip shifter in the console but if I could move the rotary knob that would be an improvement. And I would take cool the cup holder lighting like the Durango as well.

Anyone know how to get accessories made? I don't mind helping to (possibly) fund this as it could easily be a hit on Amazon and/or ebay. I can easily see how you could simply add a cup holder in front of the shifter (giving 3 total cup holders). Then, the insert could use the card holder as a place to lock in.

Before you insert the actual drop-in cup holder, you could screw into the front area of the insert, and a screw on the side - drop in the cup holder and those screws are hidden. And, before you drop in the shifter, you screw in the back and side, then drop in the shifter and those screws are hidden. You would still have the deep well to the side, similar to the full size shifters, you would just gain a 3rd cup holder.

- long story short, a cup holder in front of what I have photo-shopped above and use the cup holder and shifter to hide the mounting screws.

One of the reasons I bought my Ram was for the floor shift and console. That along with the Hemi and factory dual exhaust were the top reasons I bought a Ram Crew Cab.

There is a forum member around here ( can't recall) who has made a phone holder for the business card slot in the console using a 3d printer or cad program and sent it out for printing for a few members. If someone has seen the thread, he might be worth contacting as this all seems doable.
Edit : wadestar ... Here's the thread link if someone wants to see if he can help you out.

Another option is to identify the part numbers from the Durango to order and see if they can be retrofitted or see what might be able to be had from a local junkyard. Someone with $$ would have to be the guinea pig.

I have an early 13' with the 6-speed and console shifter. That being said I just wanted to throw out that the Grand Cherokee uses the same 8-speed and has a console shifter instead of the rotary dial. Don't know if that would work in the Ram or not. Another option though.

Just measured my friend's floor shifter console and the knob shifter would EASILY fit where his floor shifter is. Now to find a decently priced salvaged floor shifter (console insert) to mangle.

I think the knob drive selector is "cool" technology, but I'll never buy a truck without the column selector. I would however, like to see someone retrofit the dash selector into the console.

It's funny how shifter location is such a deal breaker for some people. My old Jeep had a center console shifter, my truck has the dial on the dashboard. It took a little getting used to for the first week or two, but it's nothing crazy.

The wires won't reach without extension. It's part of a larger harness the plugs into the climate controls and others located in the bezel. It is just long enough to reach the shifter.
