MPG gauge accuracy

Ive checked with a calculator and the gauge has been off by an average of 1.5 mpg. Anyone else check?

My "lie-o-meter" always reads .7 to 1.5 MPG high from actual hand calculations. Seems to be pretty common from what I have read elsewhere.

I check mine by hand every fill up and it has never been off more than .5 mpg. It is always just a little better than what it says. I have heard people say theirs is way off.

Mine is off 0.25 to 1 MPG (higher than actual) most fill-ups. Wife's 2014 Grand Cherokee is the same, so figured its just how it goes.

Does anyone know how that number is derived on these trucks? In theory something like that should be far more accurate. I've had my hand fill ups come in from 1.25 mpg low to .25 high, rarely consistent.

I am with most here. EVIC is off .5-1.5 mpg on average. I started to use fuelly to compare EVIC verses actually mpg. It's in my signature. If you click on the notes on my fuelly it shows the comparison.

I guess winter blend gasoline is back.

Mobil 93 with 10% ethanol.

Last tank EVIC read 12.8 mpg actually was 12.1 mpg

Tank before that EVIC read 12.3 mpg actual was 11.4 mpg

My meter is always off from .5 to 1.5 mpg. It depends if it is straight hiway, running around town and how much I idle. Today the meter said 17.1 mpg, a mix of town and expressway driving. Pen and papet had it at 16.3 mpg.
