Hey guys,

My buddy has a '13 1500 and is coming up on the 100K mark. He doesn't have the manual for the truck (bought it used) and I'm trying to figure out what is recommended for the 100K mile MX mark. I know on most vehicles it is timing belt and water pump. Does Dodge recommend this (and other areas)?

Is the water pump showing signs of wear? I.e noisy, not keeping steady temps?

If not. If it ain't broke dont fix it right?

Other than that, all of the fluids needs to be done. And I would check over things like the CV boots, and grease up any fittings you find.

My oem water pump lasted 150k miles before it finally blew.

Ih, and spark plugs if you haven't already

If you go to www.mopar.com and click on the register link at the top you can download your truck's build sheet and the owner's manual and the service schedule.

Your 13 probably has the 6 speed transmission, but really this applies to both transmissions - it should have a fluid and filter change at 60k miles. If that has not been done it should be done now if you want it to last or ignored if you don't care.

Be sure to check.

My manual says to only change transmission at 100k only if a commercial vehicle or do a lot of towing.

But changing wouldnt hurt.

At some point in 2013 model year, there was a change in spark plugs. Went from 30000 mile copper plug change to 100000 mile irridium plugs. Use the correct plug as they are not inter changeable.

Also the hemi has a timing chain, not a timing belt.

Haha that saying doesn't apply to a water pump. You don't wait for those to break. I've been on the highway hundreds of miles from home and had that happen. It's ain't fun. You want to replace the water pump before it breaks.

Thats why i asked if it was showing signs of wear.....

Luckily my water pump failed as i was pulling up my driveway. I noticed the temps climbing, and a nice sweet smell. Jumped out the truck, looked underneath, and saw coolant just ******* from the pump housing hahaha.

But again. if you remove the belt, and just rotate the pulley. if it feels smooth, it should still be ok.

The reason the pumps go out is because they have the fan clutch connected to them. If the fan clutch goes bad, it puts a lot of strain on the water pump pulley, which destroys the bearings.

They newer trucks with electric fans should have the water pump last much longer

The water pump has metal impeller so you don't have to worry about it imploding like on a BMW. Generally they would start to seep or make noise when needing to be replaced, so i would just inspect it and replace the serpentine belt along with a radiator flush/fill and changing all the other fluids.

A 2013 with the shift lever will be a 65RFE transmission.
