So,
Was sent a picture of a Ram 3500 DRW with an Eagle Cap 1165 truck bed camper on it with the frame broken....probably have seen this picture floating on the interwebs....

My friend who is a big Ford guy said, "should have bought a Ford" I laughed and said any truck that's overloaded is going to have problems.

Another friend said that the truck wasn't overloaded and that Rams have had several reports of the frames breaking. Then sends another picture of another crew cab long bed Cummins with a big gooseneck pulling a load of cars on it that looked like it was buckled under the weight.

For s#!t$ and giggles I looked up the specs for that slide in camper. That Eagle Cap 1165 has a dry weight of 4917lbs....so with propane, batteries and what ever the load out in the camper is, more than likely that truck was overloaded. The other picture shows a gooseneck trailer with an over deck above the pin, and it is carrying a Suburban directly over the pin, with a full load trailer....

Maybe it's just me, but being overloaded be the problem...

Not according to a few on here. To them payload means nothing. Just load it up and go.
Yeah, there's another thread here with the same pic as the top one. They're saying the load out on that camper was 6500lbs.

I would say overloaded...

I read one of I am sure many articles on that camper issue, the guy is using the max payload from the charts to say he is well under his max weight. Looking up a crew cab diesel in the charts (but not having his exact numbers) he is surely over his payload. The fact that the slide, bathroom, and refrigerator and range are behind his axle are just more reason to know he is not anywhere near correctly loaded.

Tell your Ford buddy if he looks hard enough, he will probably find photos of people roasting marshmallows while their Ford burns to the ground.
At least these Ram photos are from people doing dumb stuff and not because Ram built the truck wrong.

I've had over 5k in my bed on a 200mile trip not one issue. Also I have a big goose neck trailer last trip when I went across the scale trailer and load *** 18,875, trailer empty is 6500lbs. I towed that 400miles and it would never cross my mind to do any of it again.

The text messages I sent back were pointing out the pics he sent me the trucks were both overloaded by a lot. Still didn't make a difference. That pic of the blue dually....I mean seriously, it has a double decker gooseneck with a 5800lbs Suburban sitting right over the pin. Plus the rest of the cars on it adding more weight.

Tell you buddy at least ram trucks can at least hold their load without issues since they don't use aluminum beds lol.

Yeah but you are probably set up right and have the load distributed right.

Yeah trailer is loaded really well but axels are way back I have a lot of pin weight even empty. Next time I go across a scale empty I'll find out lol. The metal coils on the other hand are just bricks in the bed lol no distributing that.

Having a 200 mile trip with that load is a lot different than being way overloaded for 25k plus miles.....LOL.

Wow, glad we used a long bed dually for our camper. I never liked the campers that hang past the bed like that. If you're loaded heavy in the rear of the camper, well, physics wins every time. Our camper was 'only' about 4K wet and loaded. I've looked at specs of some of those huge truck campers with slides and all that, the loaded weight of some might be 6K+. You definitely have to load properly.
