So, last weekend I did a thing. I currently daily drive a 2004 Ram 1500 5.7 QC 2WD w/ 3.92's out back. It's my favorite truck to drive. I also have a 2011 RAM 3500 6.7 CTD 68RFE that I use as my race car hauler. I have been looking for the last 2 years for a 2008 Ram 1500. It has to be "that" truck for me to buy it and take up another space in the shop or the garage at home. I came across a 2008 Ram 1500 5.7/545RFE QC 2WD Laramie with 98,000 miles on the clock. Minor door ding here and there. Small ding in the lower bed quarter. Medium wear/tear in the leather in the driver seat. Overall in really good shape. I was looking for a truck like this but with engine or transmission issues because I am a Chrysler/ASE Master and I like building stuff and I have several other motors and transmissions I can use.
I really wanted a 2006-2008 for the new hood, headlamps and bumper cover along with the new style of instrument panel. I have another 2005 model I could have done a front clip swap and interior swap on but I wanted one that was complete because I have big plans and parts for this truck.
I recently built a healthy 5.7 from a 2015 model for a customer and in the middle of the engine build they decided to go with a 6.4L 392ci along with a TR-6060 and I took the 5.7 in on trade for credit. The current 5.7 has been overheated to the moon and back so it's coming out to be repaired and in the meantime time I have 5.7 from a 2008 Charger that's going to reside in the engine bay. The truck also has a Mopar reman 545RFE in it with just under 7,000 miles on the install so with that I am going to change the fluid and filters and slip in my Circle D 3800 rpm stall converter which should pair nicely with the 4.56 gears and Trak-Lok in the rear diff.
My main goal of this truck is to go ahead with the 2015 5.7 along with an 8HP70. I have performed a couple of interior swaps from a 4th Gen to a 3rd Gen for a couple of my customers and I am finally going to do one for myself. I picked up a wrecked 2017 RAM 1500 a few years ago and I am using it as my donor vehicle. I finally have the time to invest in a street project for myself so this 2008 Ram will become my guinea pig. I am going to completely gut the 2017 from top to bottom and install everything in to my 2008 and make it my daily driver.
