104,000 miles and the wrist pin is out on 1 to 3 cylinders and may need cam, head and valve springs. Anyone know any options on getting a new or rebuilt engine. Looking at $4,000 to have mine machined and rebuilt.

What happened? Seems a tad early for a rebuild. Or is it that wore out already?

Not sure. Always changed the oil every 6,000 miles. And had actually just changed it like 200 miles prior. And driving home from work and lights started going off for temp and I heard it knocking. Had the cruise control set on 70mph. Pulled over to check it. Had it towed and bam. They start checking it. There still may be more that needs done. I want to stay under $6k if possible. But if in gonna spend that much. I might as well try and get something good.

Didn't they have a problem with the wrist pins on the 2014 models with 6.4?

Did your engine fall into the recall or VIN showed it was not part of it?

Yes

My 2014 had significant piston slap.

Found out the wrist pins were undersized/wrong spec and they replaced my engine. There is a service bulletin on this issue.

Are the years after 14 good to go?

Mine is a 16 that has a build date of September 2015 and it was not included in the wrist pin recall.

Had the engine replaced in my 16 at 16000 miles for wrist pins/piston slap. Traded truck in at 40000 miles, started to have the same symptoms as first engine. I will never buy another 6.4, went Cummins this time.

Yes although it progressed to being slap happy at all temps.
My 2018 6.4 had a cold start piston slap for about the first 10k, maybe 15k, can’t remember exactly. But has been gone for awhile now. Hope it stays gone.

OP did you have any symptoms before the failure? Or did it just crap out all of a sudden?

Actually the recall says it's for vehicles made in 2014. Which was the 2015 vehicles. The dealership says mine isn't part of that recall. I call bs. And don't trust them at all anymore. Especially after them billing my insurance for stuff. Like a wiring harness. And all they done was splice mine back together. I am very very pissed.

This is a true horror story; well maintained, oil changed every 6k and no symptoms. And the dealership is playing their “all to familiar” screw you over game. So sorry Sir.
I would do MDS delete so you can put in Hellcat lifters. Might need a tune tho!

A place here called LKQ has a stock 6.4 out of a 2018 with 2 year warranty for $6,850 and $1,500 to swap it.
