One of our batteries on our 2016 RAM 2500 6.7L Laramie megacab just died. Testing shows it is toast, and it is out of warranty. What's confusing is that it is an Interstate deep cycle marine/rv battery (SRM-24, 550 CCA, 690 MCA, 140 RC) purchased at Costco, and when I go to the Interstate website, it tells me that battery is not compatible with our vehicle. It shows another battery, which is not a deep cycle battery, is compatible (MTP-94R/H7, 800 CCA). I am confused about which battery to get. I am assuming that possibly the Costco battery CCA at 550 was too low, maybe? Is "flooded-non AGM" good? Can anyone help me to figure out which battery replacement is best?

Thank you for the reply! Why would I have to replace both batteries if one battery is still good (per Napa Auto Parts, where we took it to be charged)?

I did search the owner manual and could not find anything at all about battery requirements. I went to the Mopar website/portal also. No information about requirements. Under "parts", links took me to places like the Mopar store at Amazon, but not anything specific to our truck. I'll try calling RAM, but I bet they refer me to Mopar.

So you come here asking for advice. You get good advice regarding correct battery and to replace in pairs. If you are just going to ignore the good advice and call RAM, why come here and ask in the first place?

Wow. Someone suggested I check the owner manual, and I responded to that. I got one recommendation for a battery at Walmart, which I will look at, but I did ask numerous questions about whether the CCA was too low, about the term "flooded-non AGM", thinking maybe some of the experts here might be able to explain a few things. My husband is on his way to Alzheimers and I have to figure this out myself, so thought maybe I'd get more help here since the owner manual, Interstate battery website, and Mopar didn't help. Your answer was snarky. Thank you.

go to batteries plus and put in your vehicle. 550 cca is way too low for any hemi, I would say Cummins should be higher as well. CCA is only one part of it, you usually need to match the tray as well, so put your info in and get the right battery. Example if it says h7 or h8, then you know you can get any h7 or h8 you want.

it appears to me your size is 94r.

It also looks like h7, which is the same as hemi battery.

When hooked up in the truck, parallel, the weaker battery will suck the juice of the good battery into itself, therefore taking from the CCA needed to start. Always replace them in pairs.

You need to replace both batteries at the same time, as the older battery will become a parasitic draw on the newer one.
Both the batteries in a Cummins truck are wired in parallel to each other without any form of isolation.
then you know you can get any h7 or h8 you want.

94R and H7 are pretty much the same size battery, H7 is a global standard size.
Fyi my hemi takes 850 CCA single battery.
The factory spec Hemi battery is 730 CCA although other sizes have been known to leave the factory with larger

Interstate’s MTX absorbed glass-mat (AGM) battery

If my Baby Diesel calls for the H8 size battery

Your 6.7L likely calls for it also

With a Dual Battery System, every Battery person will tell you that both Batteries should be changed at the same time.

Just like with Tires, if 1 Tire has to be changed, you always buy them in Pairs
