Thats unfortunate, they have always had the batteries ( H7 ) on the shelve at my local Walmart. $40 more a piece , and they appear to be non AGM at O’reillys . Most likely not as good a warranty either .

I would have liked you to have got a pair of Everstarts , I think you would have like them. . Hopefully what you got will serve you well .
I sure wanted the Everstarts too - i felt they were just the right answer at a decent price. We live in an area where we have to drive about a half hour to stores like Walmart, Costco, etc. It was unbelievable for Walmart to show they were in stock, actually SELL them online, say they were ready for pick up, and then not be able to find them at all. I had been feeling pretty good about buying the Everstarts and going to pick them up. I sure hope the ones we bought do the job! I'm still trying to figure out how we got those deep cycle marine batteries that we are replacing, but my husband doesn't remember anything about them. Oh well!

Batteries are such a PITA today. Life was simpler before 2000 when corporations started outsourcing everything for cheapest crap.

I guess Consumer Reports still rates Everstart highly, even though they are now made in Mexico at the Former Johnson Controls Plant (now spun off to Clarios Corp.) from Milwaukee with initial terrible quality.

I suppose pollution and labor controls are nonexistent in Mexico, and a dog-eat-dog society. An H7 or H8 AGM is $180, equivalent USA Odyssey is double that. I bought an Odyssey through AutoZone. Walmart warranty is 4 years replacement, not pro-rated.

I don't trust Costco Interstate - they keep jumping around battery factories. Walmarts are everywhere, unlike Costco. I don't even care with Odyssey - you pay the big money for quality, it ain't gonna fail on you.

Walmart contracts various battery makers from around the globe. There is not a single provider. Some are Korean, some are Mexican, none are American. Look at the label on the battery.

You're overstressing it due to the weak one.
One of our batteries on our 2016 RAM 2500 6.7L Laramie megacab just died. Testing shows it is toast, and it is out of warranty. What's confusing is that it is an Interstate deep cycle marine/rv battery (SRM-24, 550 CCA, 690 MCA, 140 RC) purchased at Costco, and when I go to the Interstate website, it tells me that battery is not compatible with our vehicle. It shows another battery, which is not a deep cycle battery, is compatible (MTP-94R/H7, 800 CCA). I am confused about which battery to get. I am assuming that possibly the Costco battery CCA at 550 was too low, maybe? Is "flooded-non AGM" good? Can anyone help me to figure out which battery replacement is best?
OK, it's real simple. You will need to replace both batteries, since one is bad, the other one will take the hit and wear out prematurely. I went to Advance Auto, cost me about $180 a piece. Your combined CCA shout be around 1800 CCA. Check your alternator for correct voltage output. Both Batteries get drained severely and moment at startup.

I went to Costco web site. Purchased the highest amperage battery for my Ram. You have to remove the spacer in the battery tray due to the larger battery dimensions. And he gentleman is correct, you always replace in pairs. I always trickle charge & top off before installing. I have purchased interstate batteries for years & found a few that just wouldn’t top off. The batteries should top off around 13.5 volts

When I put a winch on my 2004 Ram 2500 5.9 I invested in two Optima deep cycle "yellow top" batteries - this was about a year after I bought the truck new, late 2005 I think. They always performed well but last year I thought, gee 18 year old batteries, better change them puppies. And so I did, put in two new Optima yellow top batteries.

I kept the old ones around; they show up a little low but still good. Last summer one of the trolling motor batteries went out in my bass boat and I put one of the Optimas in it. Worked fine for about two months until I replaced all three of the TM batteries.

I still have the two old Optima batteries in my garage. Just can't bear to part with them! I will continue to use this type of battery in my Dodge.

Thank you. We did replace both batteries, and they are installed and the truck is running well. We had also checked the alternator and it wasn't faulty. I really do appreciate all the input here!

Go to any parts stores website, type in your year, make, and model of vehicle and see what comes up. I did that on the Advance Auto Parts website and it recommends a group size H7 battery of 800-850 CCA.
The 550 CCA deep cycle battery that was installed is not the recommended battery. When it says "not compatible" it doesn't necessarily mean you can't install it or it won't start the truck (after all, 12 volts is 12 volts...)....it's just not what is recommended. It's quite a bit too "small" in regards to CCA, and a deep cycle battery isn't the optimum setup to use in this situation.
Most people recommend replacing both batteries at the same time just so they are both fresh and the same age. Out of curiosity is the other battery a matching 550 CCA deep cycle?
Dang, I keep seeing messages I missed! Yes, both of the deep cycle batteries were 550 CCA. I've given up trying to figure out how we ended up with batteries not even recommended for our vehicle. I wasn't "in charge" of vehicles at that time. The ones we got are 800 CCA, although I would rather have been able to buy the Everstart 850's from Walmart that disappeared when we went to pick them up.

Replace both, I prefer the battery maker below. Book says H7, but if you can fit an H8 thats great too

Walmart is the only place I’ll buy my truck batteries. IMO the Everstart from them is as good as it gets for the price , and the warranty. Costco used to be decent, but their warranty is prorated the minute you buy from them .
Is this new? We've bought batteries from Costco for quite some time, and the only thing we've been charged is the difference in price between what we bought them for and what they sell for now.

Deep cycle not appropriate for that application. A regular car/truck battery with sufficient CCA is required. All of the batteries are fine -there are only a handful of manufacturers. Batteries Plus, Advanced Auto, will install at no additional charge, at a good price.

Yes, started last summer. Too many people ripping off Costco bringing in batteries just before warranty expired to get new one. So now it's 3 yr prorated across the board.

Walmart still offering 3 yr absolute for flooded wet cell and 4 yr absolute for AGM.

Walmart with Auto Center will install your battery. Costco will not, but charges less because of it, only about $17 less. I know all this because I'm researching crossover SUV batteries at the moment.

For a ram you want an H7 minimum, H8 for extra juice. AGM lasts longer for more $$, that's up to you.

I was just reading about odyssey, btw, which is what i have in my truck. There is grumbling about issues there. I wonder if they got bought up by some conglomerate with the great man demanding concessions? Guys reporting failures, old stock, not honoring warranty, Autozone divorcing them, jfc.

I guess we all go to Welfare Mart for everything. Or Bezos Space Peni$ World.

Interstate went down in quality. Walmart's batteries are comparable to them so why spend more? I have been buying Die Hard at Advance Auto. They used to sell them at Sears. They are heavy! Probably due to more lead.

I prefer cheap batteries more frequently than super expensive that may or may not last longer.
That said, my 2003 hemi truck factory battery lasted something like 13 years so I went to a dealer and said 'I don't care if it costs a bit more I want another one just like the original.' They said 'we just use Interstate.' So I went to WallyWorld.

If you are looking at the Euro H6, H7, H8 sized, that sucks because they cost 50-100 percent more than the same energy storage and CCA we used to get in 'Merican Sizes.'

Lots of factors goes into the longevity of a battery, I know guys that put them on tenders especially if they sit very long . My truck gets driven about every ten days or so , when not using for the RV . I should be on a tender . I average about 5 years on batteries for all our vehicles . So as said before , Walmart is my #1 choice . Price, warranty, and availability. It does not make sense to me to go anywhere else , unless someone has a better idea ????
