I have been wrenching since the 1960s, so I am not a novice. However, I am a newbie as far as RAM and Dodge are concerned. I started a spark plug change and ran into some difficulties. I have no service history on the vehicle, so i wanted to replace the copper spark plugs, and take a look at the iridium ones. Anything I can see visually that will be a clue that they need replacing? No codes from the computer, and it runs well.

1)How do you remove the plenum cover? It sits on top of the upper spark plugs, so it must come off. I found one 10 mm hex screw near the rt front corner. After that, I am stumped. I can't see another screw on the opposite side Nor can I see how to loosen the clamp from the plenum to the intake. It just sort of rocks around that connection...can't loosen the clamp?....can't even FIND the clamp.

2) I read the 5.7 HEMI spark plug change, and saw that the "normal " spark plug socket won't work. OK, so what will? Give me brand and model--or at least an outside diameter. I am going the Spring Carlisle for a couple of days, next week. Hopefully, I can find the correct spark plug socket there--just tell me what to look for.

Air filter box and the hose to the plenum came off easily enough.

Changed the oil and filter---full synthetic. Nice touch that little trough under the oil filter.
I also did the rear Diff oil change and the transfer case oil change...but decided to delay the front diff oil change until I got a pump. My tubing and funnel that worked for the rear diff won't work on the front. So, I'll be picking up a bottle pump at Carlisle, too.
First chance I have had to get it up on the lift since i bought it in Feb....overall, looks pretty clean. No rust on the body panels that I can see, but surprised by the surface rust on the rear suspension locating arms....sanded them down and put a coat of black satin to help protect.

Absolutely do not put iridium plugs in unless you are going to swap out the coil packs. I made that mistake with my first Ram. Coppers in the Ram should be replaced every 30k. The last time I replaced spark plugs, I pulled up a spark plug color chart on the googlenator to help determine health and any other potential issues that could be going on inside the engine.

Someone will chime in on your other questions!

You don't have something like this? Don't use the Iridiums. Do you have the 5.7?

I doubt it'll work on the 4.7 with-out some grinding Burla. The 4.7's have a very small diameter plug hole,i had to grind a thinwall plug socket slightly to get it to actually fit in the hole surrounding the plugs. The later 4.7's do use both a iridium plug and a copper plug if I remember right,it's been a couple years since I had my old 13 with a 4.7,but I think it used both style plugs.

For sure, I thought he might have a 5.7 as he talked about it, if he has the 4.7 disregard.

If it's anything like my 2011 5.7 or 2016 5.7 it just pops off. Ball type fittings in rubber sockets. May need to remove the oil fill cap as well.

I lurked around, but didn't see an answer. I'll look some more.

Join the site and ask your question there. Why are you on here asking mostly 5.7 guys about your 4.7,when there's a whole section dedicated to the 4.7's over there,i'd lay odds you'd get an answer over there faster then you will here.
