I have a 2011 4.7 Flex Fuel V8 Ram 1500 SLT. My truck overheated last week and i had nowhere to pull off to so i made it home but it was running way hot for about 10 mins and then before i could back in the driveway, it was idling very low and eventually cut off. There is a crack in the radiator, i have far bigger issues now. There is a knocking in the motor and it seems to be top end but i still cant figure it out. Sounds like some sort of octane knock but i cant quite tell. I removed the oil pan and took a look at all the bearings (rod/main) and went ahead and replaced those. Some of the rod bearings had some wear and scarring but nothing to be causing that issue. Next i took the valve cover off of where the sound seemed to originate from on the right side and rocker arms and all the valves seem to be in check. Maybe its a ring or a piston issue? Just trying to find out where to go from here, nobody i know has this motor and just looking for some advice.

you 100% dropped a valve seat you will need new cylinder head or heads and possibly a piston depends how much damage it did for next time. DO NOT!! overheat newer engines its no good once you see it getting hot shut it off.. If you are not mechanically inclined this is going to cost you$$$$ unfortunately.

I tested all the cylinders for compression and im making 150 on all of them, a valve seat may have slightly dropped but all of them still building pressure evenly. Ive had an issue with it starting back up after replacing various things, itll still crank but wont turn over. Maybe a fuel/water issue?? No signs of a bad head gasket either. Not sure how to go about it still

It'll crank, but not turn over? Cranking is turning over. You crank it to start it.

You could pressurize the cooling system but you stated there is a tear in the radiator but the compression from the engine over pressurized the cooling system, you must find that cause first, Young Man.

If it were me, I wouldn’t assume anything. Again, if it were mine, I’d replace the radiator, fill it with distilled water, perform a pressure test and look for leaks.
