Hi, I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 3.9 V6 with the automatic transmission. I bought the truck almost a week ago and noticed a problem with shifting, specifically at full throttle or when its around 60 mph. Anything over 2/3 throttle or so, the transmission won't shift. Back off slightly, and it goes up a gear. Regardless of what the speed is, if you put it to the floor, it hits the rev limiter and there is no speed increase. It feels like a downshift, as most vehicles do, but it doesnt shift back up. My biggest issue is that so far, it won't go past 65 mph or so. Doesn't matter where the accelerator is, it just refuses to gain speed. I noticed that with overdrive on OR off, it doesn't seem to be shifting into OD.
I dropped the truck off at a local mechanic and he checked it with a scan tool (for the transmission diagnosis) as well as a few other things. He dropped the trans pan and changed the transmission control solenoid as well as the transmission control module (part numbers tcs75 and tcs27). Trans fluid and filter were done at the same time. We went to pick it up and he said it was driving well. Honestly, I don't notice much of a difference, if at all.
Is there anything else I can try before I take it back to the shop? I'm open to any ideas at this point. Thanks
