Need Insurance For 3500. State Farm Premium Has Skyrocketed.

When I bought my '19 new in Jan 2020 my full coverage premium with State Farm was only $850 a year. Now it is $1600. I looked at The Hartford but they do not insure commercial vehicles. Anyone have any suggestions?

This is a regional thing so being from NJ and my Insurance Co only operates in NJ it won't be much help but for an idea full coverage with $500 deductibles I'm paying $1192yr. for just the Ram. I do have 2 other vehicles on there so they discount for that among other things.
Ask about discounts or items on your truck that would qualify for discounts such as passive restraint, security anti-theft, anti lock brakes, multi-vehicle, full coverage, ect.

Insurance companies punish you for loyalty. Shop around every year or so and you'll usually find one who's significantly cheaper for you. Insurance companies use algorithms to set prices and won't deviate for individuals, so you just have to find the one that thinks your demographics is a better bet than their competitors do.

In some States, they have Auto, Commercial, & Camper insurance

Auto has no open area to haul things
Commercial has an open bed for hauling
Camper apparently is considered enclosed, so not for hauling

Commercial insurance costs a lot more

Unfortunately Real Commercial insurance, is for Vehicles used for making Money.
That is what i have, i run a business, i paid $7500 for insurance last year, i have Commercial Auto from Progressive.
I think i will close down the business & save a bunch

Think about who we have to thank for two out three of these cost going up.

Uninsured motorists is particularly irksome. When I lived in FL, the fines for driving an uninsured vehicle were less than insurance. The UM portion of my premium was as much half the total premium. So in effect, everyone who has insurance is paying to cover someone who doesn’t.

IMHO, if one is caught driving an uninsured vehicle, the vehicle should be impounded on the spot until the owner provides proof of insurance and pays the impoundment fees.

Unfortunately insurance cost (like everything else) is going through the roof, We just went through this exercise a few weeks ago.
We have been using USAA for years but after researching all the major companies ended up switching over to Farm Bureau. Most others were just as expensive if not more then what we were paying with USAA so you really have to shop all of them and see who can give you the best deal in your area.

This, coupled with insurance companies trying to keep investors happy instead of customers, is the biggest issue with why rates keep going up. They need to turn a profit, or investors will dump them, and with those higher costs involved they raise rates.

I do agree with your comments about un- or under-insured motorists. Those fines need to be more than the 'average' insurance rates of the area/state, to entice people to actually get insurance. And you're right, those of us who are insured are covering those who aren't.

The same happens in health insurance - those of us with it are paying higher premiums to cover those who aren't insured, because if they need a hospital visit or whatever but can't pay for it (they declare bankruptcy or whatever), the provider has to recoup and raises rates, our insurance has to pay more and raises rates on us. Vicious cycle.

I dunno if they insure commercial, but we switched from State Farm to Geico, and then when Geico doubled in price and lied to me about insuring my camper, we moved over to Travelers. Might be worth checking into. We get great rates with them AND my camper is actually insured properly.

Geico told me that I only needed comprehensive on my fifth wheel and that collision would fall under my truck. What I found out 2 years later was that the camper has to carry it's own comp/collision policy. Geico refused to do it and had already doubled my rate, so we jumped. Now with 3 vehicles, the camper, and the house, AND a teenage driver, we are still about $800/yr cheaper than Geico was.

Strange that Geico wouldn't do it. We have been with Progressive for some time now, and the rates aren't...bad...we just have a lot of things to insure (currently at 4 vehicles, our TT, and my in-laws fifth wheel because it's a LOT cheaper having it under ours). We have looked around and evidently we are already getting ridiculously low rates for everything, because we haven't found anyone cheaper yet. Then again, no tickets/claims in over 10 years and having a rather in-depth understanding of what everything on a policy means and what choices get your rates as low as possible helps.

Geico WILL do it.... but they only want to insure for comprehensive. But, talking with some state officials here, collision will not cover the trailer. Especially if during an accident it breaks loose. It only applies to utility trailers. RVs (whether driveable or not) have to carry it's own insurance.

We have State Farm in AZ, also. Not sure why you're paying so much, unless you've had multiple accidents. We have two vehicles with max coverage and $500 deductible comp/collision. For my 2023 RAM 2500 it runs $825 per year. For my wife's 2024 Dodge Durango, it's $1040 per year. So a total of ~$1870 for the two.

Well, CSAA last year had a record year in profits, best year ever for them was 2022. Companies and especially ins companies love inflation, because those increases stay even when inflation leaves. Inflation gives them every legitimate reason to raise because all their costs go up (salaries, construction, body work, etc).

For CA now the micro climatologists have chose winners and losers. Current maps, good luck getting ins if you are in a high fire zone, if you do you will be paying much more closer to 70% increases. My ins has gone from 1500 to 2700 = lovely? And I'm not in a red zone, my town doesn't even have a red zone thanks to morning fog, which changes things if you are lucky to get it.

The cause of ins increases is because of inflation, the cause of ins being canceled or moving consumers to high risk is because of the use of these maps by the ins companies. But ins companies print their own money.
