So I have had my 2002 dodge ram 1500 for about 7 years now got it from a junkyard with a bad transmission I wanted the truck for a Project it didn't take long to get it on the road once I put a remanufactured transmission in it well 7 years later you would never know it came from a junkyard but the other day coming home from work the motor locked up and come to find out the oil pump went and no warning lights came on and the oil pressure gauge never changed so without knowing I starved my engine so now I'm trying to find a new engine with a low amount of mileage on it mine had just a little over 175000 on it a I can't find another 02 4.7 with anything lower then that on it in my area except for a 08 with only 36458 on it but I need to know if the engine will work in mine I can't find a good answer some say yes and some say no so can someone help me find out what years well work

08 definitely won't work, other than that I believe 02-05 would work

But don't quote me I'd let some others chime in who know more than I do lol

Need to identify which tone ring it has.
Also, from experience, it doesn't really pay to put a used 4.7 in. Spend the extra couple bucks for a quality rebuild.

2008 was the change over to the "Corsair" 4.7 - the one with more power and dual plugs. When I had my first '09 it had one of those in it. I found a few places online that had swapped the older 4.7 for the newer, and it did include having to swap the tone rings depending on the year.
