looking for part numbers for bilstein 5100 and the 5160. I tow and want domething good offroad as well. Anyone have any reviews? Had fox 2.0 and they leaked with the trailer weight.

Also looking to upgrade brake pads or system. Open to hear thoughts on these as well. Thanks

Check out my build thread. Power stop brakes seem to be the consensus. I don’t regularly tow so I can’t help there, but I’ve been happy with the off and on road performance of my Kings.

EBC Extra Duty paired with their GD rotors. I rarely tow and when I do I use a WDH. I'm running King 2.5s. From all I read, the only way to tow with PW is to bag it.

No, that’s just what a lot of people doing it wrong say. The first answer to a sagging truck shouldn’t be airbags. A WDH should keep the truck level when it is pulling what it is rated to tow, which admittedly isn’t much. The wagons sacrificed on road capability for offroad flex, so it doesn’t have the same capabilities as its brethren does.

Gents, i tow just fine with it. Just looking for shocks that will handle both the trail and towing

I put Bills in the back of mine, But Added Timbrens for the towing. Much better combo and retain comfort when not towing.

I'm curious about the OP comment of the shocks leaking with the trailer weight? Shocks don't support any weight and there is really no additional stress on them with a trailer or weight in the bed?

The truck sags and compresses the shock, when going over a bump the shock absorbs the energy, thus more energy is created due to heavier weight. The shock seals started to leak. Not a fan of fox. Not the only one i know who has had this issue with fox. Fox did not warranty them and stated that it was my fault that i overloaded the shock causing the leak.

Fox is correct in a sense...if they were overheated and puked because if it, well, thats what happens. its not their fault.

However, a quality shock should not simply overheat driving down the road towing a trailer. That’s ridiculous.

Actually, when you add a bunch if weight with a trailer, that does put more stress on the shocks. They are not supporting weight, no, but they are controlling it. Trying to keep an empty bed from bouncing up and down is a lot easier than one with another 500-1000 pounds of weight on it.

The simple act of towing a trailer shouldn't cause shocks to start leaking. If the truck was WAY overloaded and you were bombing down through Baja maybe, but just hooking a trailer up and driving should not cause an issue. I've seen shocks overheated many times and they generally just start fading real bad, as in no rebound or jounce control, but they don't fail. Once they cool down they are back to normal. These are also NOT "active" shocks so there is no "trying harder" to them. Whether the truck is sitting at normal unloaded ride height or sagged out 4" because of weight there is no difference in the force going into a normal shock. Heat build-up can be increased because the shock may cycle at a higher speed, and be using more stroke

In the end, Fox is basically making up an excuse to why the shocks failed. Period, end of story.

So part number for bil 5160’s ?? I have found a kit for the ram 2500 diesel but I don’t think that will do well with the PW due to the weight difference. Anyone else have any better luck ?
